Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Torres.
Hi Jessica, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always been a problem-solver at heart. I grew up in the heart of South Florida where hard work and resourcefulness were core values. I was more intellectual than social—quiet, curious, and happiest when I was learning or creating. As a millennial, I experienced the best of both worlds: childhoods spent digging through encyclopedias and library books, and teenage years immersed in the rise of the internet.
When personal computers entered the scene, I was immediately fascinated. I wanted to understand how everything worked, so I clicked on every button, broke things, fixed them, and kept experimenting. In middle school, I took a typing class, but it was instant messaging that really taught me to type—because it was the conversations that mattered. That’s how I’ve always learned: by doing, building, and figuring things out hands-on.
By high school, I was taking coding classes and fell in love with the idea that I could create something out of nothing—and make my own rules in the process. I started my career in web and mobile development over 20 years ago, including a role in law enforcement where I created custom software applications to help deputies do their jobs more efficiently. Even then, I was focused on real-world impact—using tech to solve problems and improve lives. On the side, I’d design cards and flyers for friends, blending my logical brain with creative curiosity.
As the digital world evolved, so did I. I shifted into freelance web design and marketing to help small businesses—especially realtors and service-based businesses—stand out and get found online.
Today, I specialize in building high-converting websites, intentional brands, and strategic social media presences. What started as a love for clean code turned into a passion for helping people succeed in an overwhelming digital space. My work is all about clarity—making it easier for great businesses to attract the right people, build trust, and grow with confidence.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest struggles early on was figuring out what to specialize in. With a wide skill set and a genuine desire to help, I had to resist the urge to be everything to everyone. As I started networking, I kept hearing the same question: “Can you do this?”—and the answer was often yes. But I had to pause and ask myself: Do I want to? Is this really serving the client—or just filling a gap?
It took time (and a good dose of humility) to let the market guide me. I had to show up, experiment, and really listen to what people needed—not just what they asked for. Eventually, the patterns emerged—and so did my niche.
That process is actually what brought my work to Raleigh. A longtime friend, a realtor in the area, needed help attracting her ideal clients on Instagram. Building a strategy for her lit a spark—it opened the door to packaging services specifically for realtors and even planning on launching a podcast and other resources tailored to their needs.
Realtors, like many business owners, are great at what they do—but they often struggle to communicate that to the right audience online. And I love solving that puzzle. Each realtor is unique, with strengths they don’t always recognize. Helping them uncover their potential, find clarity, and do what they love with confidence? That’s the most rewarding part of what I do.
It wasn’t an overnight path—but it led me exactly where I needed to be.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I’m a marketing and brand strategist who helps small businesses get crystal clear on who they are and who they serve so they can attract their audience organically through their website and on social media.
What I’m most known for is helping clients gain clarity—not just about their messaging, but about their audience, their positioning, and their purpose.
What sets me apart is my empathy. I really listen. I take time to understand my clients’ vision, their values, and the why behind their work. Then I do market research and translate that into strategy and design that speaks directly to their ideal clients. That emotional intelligence—blending logic and intuition—is what makes the work resonate.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was quiet and observant—but my mind was always buzzing.
I was endlessly curious and drawn to anything that made me think: puzzles, math problems, learning to play piano. I loved solving things, building things, and creating beauty within structure. I’ve always been most comfortable in spaces where creativity meets boundaries—where there are rules to push against, but not be trapped by.
Looking back, it makes perfect sense that I ended up in marketing. I’ve always loved making something out of nothing—a new idea, a better version of something broken, a more effective way to communicate. And I’ve always had this deep understanding of people: what moves them, what they care about, what they’re trying to say but don’t have the words for.
Marketing lets me bring all those pieces together—logic, creativity, empathy, and impact—and that’s why I love what I do.
