Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Stubbs.
Hi Joshua, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in the sign industry. My dad has owned a sign company in Oklahoma almost as long as I can remember. I remember growing up watching him hand paint signs with no computers. It was amazing to watch. I remember hand painting my first sign at 13 years old. I have tried a lot of crafts and jobs. but nothing calls to me like the sign industry. I love being able to drive around the county and state and see the work I have done. I am a Volunteer Firefighter and I just passed my NC State EMT Exam.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been anything but smooth. As a matter of fact, the road is still bumpy trying to get more people hired and catch up on work that I already have. I feel like I have found every bump in the road. Most of our struggles are either not having enough operating funds, or not having enough help to complete the work.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Black Sheep Signs is a full-service branding and signage company dedicated to helping businesses stand out with high-quality, high-impact visual solutions. We specialize in custom vehicle wraps, embroidery, exterior signs, window graphics, apparel, and a wide range of promotional and branded items. Whether it’s a full fleet wrap, uniforms for your team, storefront branding, or small-format graphics, we take pride in delivering work that is clean, bold, and built to last.
What truly sets us apart is our commitment to craftsmanship. We take the extra steps many others skip — removing door handles, mirrors, headlights, and trim during wrap installations; using premium materials; paying close attention to detail; and treating every project like it represents our own brand. We don’t rush — we focus on doing it right. That dedication shows in the longevity and professional look of our finished products.
We’re most proud of the reputation we’ve built for quality and consistency. Our customers trust us because they know they’ll get honest communication, reliable work, and creative solutions tailored to their business. Brand-wise, Black Sheep Signs represents individuality — we embrace being different, doing things better, and helping our clients “Stand Out from the FLOCK.”
At the end of the day, our goal is simple: to help businesses grow through powerful visual branding. Whether you’re just starting out or leveling up your company’s identity, we’re here to bring your vision to life with quality you can see and service you can feel.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was the type of kid that wanted to know what made things behave the way they did. I used to take apart mechanical and electronic items just to see what was on the inside. Sometimes I was able to put them together and they still work. My ADHD made school very boring. My schoolwork would get done and I had nothing else to do except cause trouble in class. I was an outcast growing up. I only had a couple of friends, I wasn’t popular by any means. I loved playing Magic and D&D
