Today we’d like to introduce you to Katihuska.
Hi Katihuska, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hi, my name is Katihuska Nazario, but most people call me Kathy. I studied at Moderns Hair Style Institute in Puerto Rico, and I started my career about four years ago as a licensed cosmetologist and makeup artist.
Throughout my journey, I’ve had the opportunity to work in different salons back in Puerto Rico and also freelance with brands like Estée Lauder. I’ve collaborated with photographers, actors, and even worked with a special effects makeup team, which really helped me develop my creativity—not just in beauty, but also in photography, content creation, and being in front of the camera.
About a year ago, I moved to North Carolina because I’ve always had the dream of owning my own salon and growing in this industry. I actually started at Prana Head Spa & Wellness as an employee, and through a lot of hard work and dedication, I became the owner. That experience really shaped me, not just as a professional, but also as a leader.
Since the beginning, my main focus has been hair health. I love educating my clients and helping them understand how to take care of their scalp and hair so they can feel confident and look their best. Right now, I’m continuing to grow in the Head Spa field, and I’m working toward becoming a certified trichologist so I can keep offering high-quality, results-driven services.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say my journey hasn’t been easy, but it has shaped who I am today.
Early in my career, I worked in different salons where I never truly felt comfortable, and at times, I felt that my work was undervalued. Those experiences made me question my place in the industry. There was even a year when I stepped away from hair completely and focused only on makeup, because I felt discouraged by what I had gone through. But even then, deep down, I knew that wasn’t fully aligned with who I wanted to become.
From day one, my goal was always to have my own business, and more importantly, to focus on hair health. I remember asking myself: Do I want to be just another stylist focused only on color, or do I want to be different and truly help people care for and maintain healthy hair? That question changed everything for me.
I tried to start my business in Puerto Rico, but opportunities were limited at the time. That’s when I made the decision to move to North Carolina, hoping to find better opportunities and continue growing. When I first moved, I wasn’t able to find a position in a salon right away, so I started working at Target while continuing my education in Head Spa treatments and trichology. It was a very challenging and frustrating season for me, but I didn’t stop investing in myself.
One day, I decided to go out and personally visit different salons, and that’s when I found Prana Head Spa & Wellness. I started there as an employee, and over time, clients began to specifically request me because of the level of care and attention I gave in my services.
Eventually, the previous owner offered me the opportunity to take over the business. Today, I can truly say I’m grateful for every difficult moment I went through, because each one prepared me for where I am now. Through perseverance, faith, and consistency, I’ve been able to step into my purpose. I strongly believe that every challenge I faced was part of a greater plan, shaping me into the professional and business owner I am today.
We’ve been impressed with Prana Head Spa & Wellness, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Prana Head Spa & Wellness is a space dedicated to scalp health, relaxation, and overall well-being. Our services are designed to go beyond traditional hair care—we focus on creating an experience that nurtures both the scalp and the mind.
We specialize in Head Spa treatments, which combine deep scalp cleansing, detox, hydration, and therapeutic techniques like massage, red light therapy, and personalized scalp analysis. Each service is customized based on the client’s needs, whether they’re dealing with buildup, dryness, hair thinning, or simply looking to relax and reset.
At Prana, our main focus is education and prevention. We don’t just provide a service—we guide our clients on how to properly care for their scalp and hair long-term. We truly believe that healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp, and consistency is key to achieving real results. That’s why we encourage our clients to see Head Spa not as a one-time service, but as part of a monthly treatment routine.
To support that journey, we offer memberships, service packages, and additional add-ons that are designed to complement and enhance the main treatments. This allows our clients to stay consistent, maintain their results, and continue improving their scalp health over time.
Many of our clients find us through social media, word of mouth, and the experience itself. The level of care, attention to detail, and visible results are what keep them coming back—and what inspires them to recommend us to others.
What we want people to know about Prana is that this is more than just a spa. It’s a place where you can slow down, feel cared for, and reconnect with yourself. Every detail—from the environment to the service—is intentional. Our goal is for every client to leave not only looking better, but feeling renewed, confident, and truly taken care of.
What were you like growing up?
Personally, I strive to grow into a woman of integrity—someone who keeps her word, remains humble, and leads with faith and joy. My goal is to become a person who can genuinely support and inspire other women to pursue their dreams and believe in their potential.
I want to be seen as someone trustworthy, confident, and well-prepared—someone who not only provides a service but also educates and truly cares for her clients. Intellectually, I’m always looking for opportunities to grow and to see potential where others may not.
As a business, our vision is to continue evolving into a more elevated and luxury brand, where every client feels that our services are not just treatments, but a unique and memorable experience.
