Inspiring Conversations with Keke Fyffe of Alani and Renee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keke Fyffe.

Hi Keke, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started making candles in 2016 in Brooklyn, NY. I have always had a love for candles. I attended two candle-making classes and I fell even more in love with candles. I went through some hard times and I had to stop. After relocating to North Carolina in 2019, I began making candles again. Making candles for me is an opportunity to leave a legacy for my daughters while doing something that I love.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nope, it has not been a smooth road. My most recent struggles are sourcing candles supplies and candle wax since the pandemic, there has been storage for coconut wax and getting my hands on a specific wax has been my biggest issue. In the past, I struggled with bad business deals with graphic designers which caused me to lose a lot of money. As a full-time employee and single mother of two balancing my time wisely is a constant struggle.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Alani and Renee, we provide handmade coconut wax candles with natural and safe scents that promote self-care. Through careful research, we choose to use coconut wax based on its eco-friendly characteristics. Our scents mesh well with coconut wax which provides a better scent quality.

When I look back on how I started and how much I lost and gained that makes me most proud of my brand. I came a long way and I know I have a long way to go, however with every day that passed, every candle that is sold, and every dollar that I can use to provide for my children that is what makes me most proud about my brand. I have created a brand that can help me as well as help someone else.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My advice for networking would be to engage with other entrepreneurs on Instagram. Instagram is a very important free tool if used wisely. I have met a few entrepreneurs who I was able to collaborate with and also learn from. I also suggest following people that inspire you, a lot of times those people share gems that you can apply to any area of your life.
