Inspiring Conversations with Kristen Ross of Down Home Realty and Property Management, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Ross.

Hi Kristen, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey into real estate has been shaped by a passion for helping people and building meaningful relationships. Originally from Orlando, Florida, I relocated to North Carolina more than a decade ago due to military commitments, and it quickly became the place I proudly call home.

I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and spent many years working in the medical field, where I developed strong communication skills and a deep understanding of how to support people through important life decisions. For the past several years, I’ve also owned and operated an in-home childcare business, which allowed me to build lasting relationships with families throughout my community while creating a safe and nurturing environment for children.

Those experiences naturally led me to real estate. I realized that helping families find the right home combines everything I love—building relationships, understanding individual needs, solving problems, and guiding people through major life milestones. Today, as a Realtor®, I have the privilege of helping buyers, sellers, military families, and those relocating to Eastern North Carolina navigate the real estate process with confidence.

My goal is simple: to provide personalized service, honest guidance, and a smooth experience while helping my clients find a place they can truly call home.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but every challenge has helped shape who I am today. Like many military families, relocating and starting over in a new state meant rebuilding my network, finding my place in the community, and adapting to a new environment. Balancing family life, running an in-home childcare business, and pursuing a career in real estate also required a lot of hard work, patience, and time management.

One of the biggest challenges was stepping into a new industry later in my career. Real estate is highly competitive, and building trust, growing a client base, and establishing yourself takes dedication and persistence. There were moments of uncertainty, but I leaned on the relationships I had built within my community and focused on providing exceptional service to every client I worked with.

Looking back, those struggles taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of building genuine connections. They also gave me a deeper appreciation for the challenges many of my clients face when relocating, buying, or selling a home. Today, those experiences allow me to better serve and support the families I work with throughout their real estate journey.

One of the things I love most about Down Home Realty & Property Management is that we truly operate like a family. From the moment I joined the team, I was welcomed, encouraged, and supported by people who genuinely want to see one another succeed. The collaborative environment allows us to share knowledge, celebrate victories together, and ensure our clients receive the highest level of service.

Down Home Realty specializes in helping buyers, sellers, investors, and military families navigate the real estate process throughout Eastern North Carolina. As a Military Relocation Professional (MRP) and military spouse myself, I understand the unique challenges that come with relocating, buying, and selling homes on a timeline. We pride ourselves on providing personalized guidance, honest communication, and local expertise every step of the way.

What sets us apart is our commitment to relationships over transactions. We don’t believe in simply helping someone buy or sell a house—we focus on helping people achieve their goals and finding a place they can truly call home. Our clients become part of our extended family, and many of those relationships continue long after closing day.
