Inspiring Conversations with Kristina Barrett of K. Barrett Styling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristina Barrett

Hi Kristina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always loved organizing since I was young. I can remember coming home from college for the summers and I wouldn’t do anything else until all my bags were unpacked and my room was organized. I graduated from Flagler College with a B.A. in Fine Arts so I have always been creative as well. The right brain left brain struggle is real. LOL.

In the past I worked at many upscale stationery shops and used to create custom invitations, make handmade cards and design store and window displays. Along the way I met some great customers and I started helping them organize their homes.

I have been a professional organizer for over 15 years but during the pandemic I rebranded to include more personal styling. I have found over the years that people are much more accountable to keep an area or surface clear of clutter if it is beautifully styled.

Styling a coffee table, entryway table or any other area that may become a drop zone is like putting a post it note that says “Don’t”. We all need reminders to help us form new habits and this is why I am so passionate about organizing AND styling.

I also experienced a lot of anxiety during the pandemic and started learning more about Feng Shui and environmental design. The most important take away for me is to consider how your home makes you feel. Our environments have a big impact on our daily lives and mental health.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have definitely seen a lot of homes over the years and done a variety of projects. One of the hardest things was when I used to have hoarding clients and they were just not ready to accept help with getting their home de cluttered.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
K. Barrett Styling offers organizing and styling for your home and wardrobe. While I have over 15 years experience as a professional organizer, I am also an artist and stylist. Just think of me as your creative coach! Combining colors and adding accessories is my superpower!

Can I help you organize your home? Yes! But my true passion is to help you get organized and take things a step further to identify your personal style. I love to shop a client’s home and closet first. We all get tunnel vision and my goal is to help you see your space and wardrobe in a new way. Moving things around, mixing old and new, grouping cohesive color palettes, showcasing important mementos.
You can totally transform a space with color and accessories.

One of my other specialties is Closet Edits, Closet Organizing and Outfit Styling. Closets are my happy place! I love helping women edit out things they no longer need and shop their closets to create new looks. My favorite thing is when a client says to me ” I never would have thought to put that together.”

I have one client that I have helped for 13 years and I style all her outfits. She is a busy doctor and we created an outfit closet with pre-styled outfits complete with jewelry and accessories. This way she always has options for TV appearance, speaking engagements, conferences, everyday work wear, date night and fun trips. It has been a game changer for her busy schedule.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I will admit that I have a love/ hate relationship with social media.
However, the one thing I have loved about Instagram is the other incredible women business owners I have met. During the pandemic I attended some online groups and met some amazing women that are so inspiring.

I love connecting with local entrepreneurs and collaborating and supporting each other. I am hoping to do even more collaborations with boutiques and other businesses to provide some fun ladies nights with Fall styling inspiration for your home and wardrobe.
