Today we’d like to introduce you to Lashonda Richardson.
Hi Lashonda, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up watching family members struggle with illnesses like diabetes, high blood pressure, and other conditions that disproportionately affect African American households. Seeing their challenges sparked a passion in me—to make sure that people had access to reliable health resources in plain, understandable language. I wanted people not only to live longer, but to live stronger—with the mobility, energy, and confidence to enjoy life fully.
That passion led me to create EMERGE Public Health & Wellness Solutions, LLC, where I bring together education, event planning, and consulting to build healthier communities. I love designing and hosting wellness experiences that go beyond the traditional health fair—using creative and unconventional approaches to excite people about their health. From PINKTOBER breast cancer events to Sweet Talk diabetes awareness gatherings, I’ve seen firsthand how innovative events can empower people to take control of their wellness journey.
Along the way, I’ve become a Certified Community Health Worker, spoken at the North Carolina Public Health Association, and partnered with businesses, nonprofits, and faith-based organizations to ensure their members and employees have the education, resources, and support they need. My work combines strategic planning, curriculum development, and community engagement to create programs that are not only impactful but sustainable.
At the heart of it all, I leave my clients and communities with this truth: “You will live until you die—but what do you want your quality of life to be while you’re living?”
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
With any great work you set out to do, there are always going to be challenges. One of the biggest I’ve faced is realizing that not everyone is ready for change. In our communities, many people are comforted—and sometimes even bound—by long-standing family traditions around food and lifestyle. No matter how much you try, some may not see it your way, and I had to learn that’s okay. My role is to plant the seed, provide the information, and allow people to sit with it. Sometimes what I share may not take root right away, but I trust that one day something I said might be the spark that ignites their change.
Another challenge has been rejection. I’ve been told “no” to contracts, assignments, and funding opportunities. But I’ve also learned that “no” doesn’t mean the end—it just means I need to find another way. Because of my passion for what I do, I always press forward, whether I’m creating something on my own or partnering with others. The outcome is worth it when even one person is positively affected and given the tools to make a healthier choice.
And of course, there’s the personal battle with doubt and fear—wondering if people will come to my events, or if my efforts will succeed. But my faith in God has carried me through those moments. I stand on the belief that with Him, all things are possible, and time after time, I’ve seen everything work together for my good in the end.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned on this journey is to never quit. There will be times when you don’t feel like you have everything you need—resources, support, or even the confidence to keep moving forward—but what has kept me going is the impact I’ve seen in people’s lives. That impact has been my driver. I’ve learned that you have to believe in yourself, even in the moments when it feels hardest. And I’ve also come to understand that impact doesn’t have to be big or flashy to matter—sometimes the smallest, simplest efforts can be the most meaningful and powerful.
