Today we’d like to introduce you to Lawain Howell
Lawain, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My family and I moved to the states 21 years ago after my father landed his 1st job as an IT professional and my mother a teacher. As a kid I was infatuated with playing sports but the one I loved the most was soccer. In Jamaica, soccer is the most popular sport and the most popular sport worldwide. My father, Leo, loves the game more than anyone I’ve ever known thus came my undying passion for “the beautiful game”. Growing up I was always the standout player that got picked for every major event, even call ups to the national team although I wasn’t eligible to play for US due to national restrictions. My last year of club soccer I graduated from North Carolina FC Professional Academy under 18s. I was to play in Germany my freshman year of college but things didn’t workout as planned. I got a concussion due to a ball to the temple which made me miss the rest of the season halfway through. I dropped out that following year and have been training as well as doing everyday self education to stay sharp. After years and years of trying to find my true calling, I decided to get back into training everyday and even decided to post my clips for my own entertainment. This was all during the COVID pandemic when things drastically changed for everyone so needless to say it wasn’t the easiest of times. One day in particular, I decided to post my 1st video on Instagram and around 1-2 hours later, the video accumulated around 10k views. This was also during the Instagram paid reels cycle where creators got paid a certain amount based on their reels view count. To see 10k for my first post was so surreal but I was definitely surprised to say the least but I didn’t stop there. I continued to post 2 reels per day, one in the morning and one in the evening and around 6 months later, I had accumulated around 1 million Instagram views total equating to around $2k in revenue. After this proved to be successful, I went over to YouTube, created a soccer channel and started posting as many videos as I could, all pertaining to soccer, skills, drills, shooting, etc and this was during the early stages of YouTube shorts being introduced to the public as a new feature. After posting my 1st short video, I woke the next morning to find the video did 20k and ever since then I’ve been posting habitually on both platforms, growing my Instagram from 25k to 150k within 2 months and my YouTube channel from 0 to 3.4k with a total view count of 2.2M. I’ve also received many sponsorships and endorsements. My absolute favorite as of now was being invited as a VIP to watch arguably the best soccer team in the world, Manchester City and even got to treat my parents to a once in a lifetime sports event as VIPs. Through faith in God, hard work and a little ambition, anything is possible.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve had many struggles along the way including focusing on something that isn’t actively making tangible results. The biggest tribulation I’ve faced since dropping out University and quitting D1 soccer is mental health. I’ve had many up and downs in my life but to feel as though I failed at the one thing I loved most, was a blow I just couldn’t live down and even though I started university at 16, I still blamed myself for not taking it more seriously although I was very young but all those regrets tuned to happiness and a reason to keep going even when things get tough.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Lawain Howell & Unruly Football Club ?
What I do
I’m a model & influencer (soccer, lifestyle & fashion) sponsored by a number of brands. Im a private skills coach, personal stylist, social media manager aiding personalities, athletes & celebs with niche specific growth, overall retention, outreach, branding deals, and what have you and a soon to be a fully certified stock trader. I know athletes are BIG on investing as well and I have a lot of valuable insight. My current profession is a sponsored semi professional athlete & Internet personality whist actively trying to get into the professional game full time. I’m working on running my own semi professional club and youth academy as well. What sets me apart from others is my undying URGE to want to know more and what is of the unknown. I consider myself a “jack of all trades” because I know a lot about a lot have so many different well structured, intricate businesses so there’s absolutely no way I could fail.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Balance is key! The one thing I lacked the most throughout my life that I seem to have finally mattered but similar stock trading, nothing is ever certain and anything can change in the blink of an eye so stay ready and trust God.
