Inspiring Conversations with Maria Fernanda Vega Zuniga of Marie Bracelets

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Fernanda Vega Zuniga.

Maria fernanda Vega Zuniga

Hi Maria Fernanda, I’m so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Maria Fernanda Vega Zuniga. I was born in Cali, Colombia, and studied Business Administration and Marketing. My work experience includes being a commercial advisor and, most recently, a Commercial Manager for Central America and the Caribbean in a company in Mexico City. Working for this company taught me about cultures and business environments that differ from those in my native country. After experiencing the pandemic in Colombia and dealing with the difficulties caused by the social and economic crisis, I arrived in the United States in March 2022 to live in Fayetteville. During my time here, I have had a great experience, and it has been a fresh start and a path of renewal and learning. When I first arrived in the US, I had limited English communication skills and few job options. However, I remembered learning to make Macrame bracelets in Colombia. This inspired me to start my own business. My sister, Yamileth Vega, and I also formed Merequetengue Colombian Dance, a dance group that brings the most representative Colombian folk rhythms to different events to which we are invited. This has given us more confidence to mobilize and develop in this country. My business is Marie Bracelets, specializing in Terlenka thread bracelets and other accessories. I create personalized designs and use pendants in 18 Karat Colombian Gold and laminated gold, all made by hand in Macrame fabric. My products are 100% handmade and influenced by Colombia’sColombia’s colors, fabrics, and traditional design elements.

Would it be a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Entrepreneurship can be challenging and uncertain, mainly when operating in a foreign country with diverse cultures. However, the experience can be rewarding in more ways than just monetary gains. Every effort made brings its rewards, and there is always a new opportunity to start again. When starting a business, overcoming any obstacles that arise along the way is crucial. I am currently focused on finding new options, creating fresh designs, and evolving my business to make it memorable and recognizable to people. I am seeing changes and progress both personally and professionally.

We’ve been impressed with Marie Bracelets, but for folks who might need to be more familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart?
