Hi Marissa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
In April 2020, I launched MHP Lounge as an online magazine with the aim of engaging the local community in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. It was through conducting interviews with various individuals that I realized the platform would be most effective if I tailored the publication to spotlight artists from diverse backgrounds, inspiring models, and business owners. Six years on, MHP Lounge has expanded to over 17,000 quarterly subscribers. In 2026, we officially incorporated as MHP Lounge INC. We have relocated the main headquarters to North Carolina from Texas, but continue to conduct a lot of business in Texas. We continue to offer the quarterly online magazine with an option for print, along with MHP Lounge merchandise and several new business ventures under the MHP Umbrella that are set to launch soon.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As with any new business, there will always be bumps in the road. The first 3 years of operation for MHP Lounge were particularly challenging, as it unfortunately lost money consistently during that period. However, it wasn’t until the 4th year that the profits finally began to emerge and become recognizable, which allowed the business to flourish and expand its reach in the community. Building a successful enterprise often requires patience and perseverance, especially when faced with initial setbacks and obstacles.
