Inspiring Conversations with Nura Hill of Lightbox Lab

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nura Hill.

Hi Nura, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I went to school at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill and got a degree in Information Science. My focus was mostly in User Experience Design. I’ve always been a creative person who also admires structure and logic, so UX design seemed to be the perfect field for me to dive into. While pursuing this degree, I picked up a few skills such as web design and graphic design.

When I graduated, I already had two kids under the age of three and I wanted to do whatever I could to not have to work a full-time job and put both of my kids in daycare all day. I decided to start freelancing for the next year doing web and graphic design. As any business owner wants, I wanted my business to go from solo freelancer to business owner, where my role is dealing with sales, while I create a team around me of creative and marketing geniuses. I knew that with freelancing, I would eventually hit a wall where I could only grow so much, so focusing on growing the business was the way to go.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’m very grateful for having the opportunity to pursue my dreams. It’s not lost on me that most people don’t have this luxury. Has it been easy? No. I started at UNC when I was 29, so a bit later than most! While I was in school, my husband was also pursuing his degree. We were doing all of this with two small children, jobs to help support us, and my God-sent parents to help us through it. If it wasn’t for my parent’s help, I would not have been able to finish school. Just as any other business owner knows, trying to run a business is very challenging. You have to be in a constant state of learning, be totally ok with failing, and know that you are going to have to hit the same wall over and over and over again before you can get to the other side. Luckily, I love what I do, I am really passionate about my work, so although sometimes it’s hard, I love the challenge, and I love knowing that hopefully one day, my kiddos might look up to me and all the hard work that I put in.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Lightbox Lab is a multi-disciplinary Marketing and Creative agency. We help service-based businesses by building their websites and brands that attract, capture, nurture, and convert cold prospects into high-quality clients. Our websites stand out from the rest as we focus on creating what we call “Sales Driven Websites”. Not only are they informational, but they also have marketing strategies built into them. We are so proud of the methodology that we use because of how incredibly logical and successful they are for our clients. Our creative team focuses on high-end branding that goes hand in hand with the sites we create. We also design Book covers and interior formatting, white papers, and brochures. What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the triangle! I’ve lived in a few different places in the US and abroad, and I have to say, the triangle is really special to me. I love that it is very family-oriented, the food scene is crazy good, and If you ever get tired and need a change of scenery, all you have to do is drive 2 hours and you’ll get to the beach or to the mountains!
