Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Sandberg.
Hi Rachel, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey into the travel industry didn’t begin with tourism—it began in healthcare. With a background in nursing, I spent years working in roles centered around caring for others, eventually transitioning into a position with an insurance company in their healthcare department. While the work was meaningful, like so many Americans, I found myself feeling burnt out and in need of a pause. About three and a half years ago, I made the brave decision to step away, fully expecting I’d take a year to reset before returning to the healthcare field.
During that time, I hired a travel agency to plan a Europe trip for my family. When I learned they were hiring, I felt an unexpected pull. I’ve always loved travel, I’m highly detail-oriented, and—admittedly—a bit of a perfectionist. What started as curiosity quickly turned into a calling. I was hired and went through an extensive, award-winning training program—an opportunity that many new advisors don’t receive—and it laid an incredibly strong foundation for my career.
I spent two years with that agency, learning, growing, and falling completely in love with this work. Eventually, I felt ready to take the next step and build something of my own. That’s when I launched One Sweet World Travel Company. Becoming my own boss and running my own business had always been a dream, and stepping into that role felt both empowering and deeply aligned.
Now, a year and a half later, my business is growing, and I truly love what I do. I wake up excited for work—yes, I’m that person who actually likes Mondays. This career feels like home in a way nothing else ever has. I get to combine my passion for travel, my love of organization and planning, and my desire to serve others in a way that feels joyful, fulfilling, and meaningful. And I’m so grateful I followed that unexpected path that led me here.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Switching career paths was not easy. In the beginning, the biggest challenges were finding clients and earning people’s trust. This takes time, patience, and perseverance. I was asking friends, family, and referrals to believe in me as I built something entirely new. The first year was the hardest. There were moments of doubt and plenty of behind-the-scenes hustle, but I stayed committed to delivering exceptional service, clear communication, and thoughtfully planned trips—every single time.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At One Sweet World Travel Company, I specialize in creating custom “approachable luxury” itineraries, particularly for Europe and North America including the US, Caribbean, Canada, and Mexico. Approachable luxury travel is a style of travel that blends elevated, high-quality experiences with warmth, ease, and accessibility. It’s for those who want a nice trip but don’t necessarily have a rock-star budget. It means staying in well-located, beautifully designed hotels that feel special and welcoming. Enjoying private or small-group experiences that add value and ease, not just expense. Prioritizing seamless logistics like private transfers. It’s curated, intentional, and stress-free, allowing travelers to feel confident, cared for, and fully present while exploring the world.
What truly sets One Sweet World Travel Company apart is the level of care behind every itinerary. My background in nursing means service, trust, and advocacy are at the core of how I work. I approach each trip with a perfectionist’s eye and a caretaker’s mindset, treating my clients’ vacations with the same importance and intention as I would my own family’s. Combined with extensive professional training and strong global partnerships, this allows me to create elevated, worry-free travel experiences that feel personal, intentional, and truly special.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Traveling, of course! Travel both excites me and calms me down. It creates memories, shared moments, and stories that stay with me long after the suitcase is unpacked. I have never been big into collecting “stuff”. Instead I collect memories and feelings. And those feelings—freedom, awe, connection—are what makes me happy.
