Inspiring Conversations with Raquel Dailey of Growth Compass

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raquel Dailey.

Raquel Dailey

Hi Raquel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Twenty years ago, I stepped into the world of education with no clue where the journey would lead. I officially threw my cap in the air on May 9th, and by May 10th, I was already teaching high school Spanish. From K12 classrooms to higher education settings, I soaked up all of the experiences I could, learning and growing every step of the way.

As time passed, a passion for advocacy and helping people craft their ideal lives bubbled up to the surface. Overall, this passion could manifest in various forms, but for me, one avenue that felt right was becoming a Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach. In this role, I found joy in teaching organizational leaders and teams to tap into their unique talents, making strides toward their goals while fostering a positive work culture.

After completing my doctoral work in 2020, I was able to also lean into my other passion—championing equity and inclusion in international education and career development. With this, I empower students and fellow educators to support international and historically marginalized communities. I found my sweet spot at the intersection of international education and career development. Partnering with colleges and universities, I work to create diverse global opportunities for students, breaking down barriers along the way.

Now, after navigating years of twists and turns, I’ve found my callings. With each day, I’m driven by the desire to help others shape their futures and create a world where everyone has the chance to live the life they dream of.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As I mentioned, there were twists and turns. Frankly, I believe a bit of unpredictability is needed along any journey. Even now, I work with executives and CEOs who’ve navigated seemingly linear professional paths, and they are now trying to figure out how to incorporate more of their passion and dreams into the great lives they’ve created, but that do not necessarily align with who they are today.

I have always been an avid learner, and I have the degrees and certifications to prove it. But just as people evolve, so do our goals and interests. It’s a natural progression. If we’re unwilling to pivot along the way, we risk getting stuck in a rut of dissatisfaction. So, yes, my journey had its fair share of bumps. However, I’ve come to appreciate that these bumps were like signposts at pivotal moments, urging me to recalibrate and align my passions.

And that is not an easy process, especially when you are on one path personally or professionally and then start going in a new direction. But I appreciate those bumps. Each one, despite the initial discomfort, was instrumental in shaping my path and helping me unearth my true calling.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Growth Compass?

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The defining quality that has been instrumental in my success is resilience. Navigating the diverse realms of education, coaching, and consulting demands a constant ability to pivot, learn, and evolve. Whether working with individuals or organizations, being resilient allows me to think clearly to tailor my approach, embrace change, and effectively address the unique needs and challenges presented. It empowers me to bounce back from setbacks, navigate challenges with optimism, and maintain a positive outlook despite obstacles. Resilience allows me to not only weather the storms but also learn and grow from them. It’s the backbone of my ability to adapt, persist, and ultimately succeed in helping individuals and organizations unlock their full potential.
