Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Define Brows and Spa opened nearly 15 years ago as one of the first official threading salons in the Brier Creek area. Founded by Sanya Sukhwal, the spa was built on years of skill and tradition. A licensed esthetician and native of India, Sanya learned the art of threading as a child, carrying this time-honored technique with her as she built a business rooted in precision, culture, and care. Sanya now works alongside a professional staff and has expanded her services to facials, eyebrow laminations, eyelash lifts, body waxing, brazilian wax, and more.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Sanya faced regular daily obstacles during the genesis of Define Brows and Spa: language barriers, a full-time job, and the responsibility of raising two children. Each day began before sunrise as she prepared her children for school and made their meals. She then commuted nearly 50 minutes to her job in Chapel Hill, working until 6 p.m. Without rest, she would head straight to her night esthetician classes in Durham, which lasted until 9 p.m. Once she reached home, she would study her notes as they were not in her native language. Day after day, she pushed forward with her vision.

Threading is our specialty, and every member of our team is a professionally trained threader. In addition to threading, Sanya specializes in advanced skincare services, with a particular passion for facials—especially the Hydrafacial. What truly sets Define Brows and Spa apart is our commitment to accessibility. We believe self-care is not a luxury, but a necessity, which is why we keep our pricing intentionally affordable. For example, while the average cost of a Brazilian wax is around $65, ours is $40. We use only products we genuinely trust and believe in, and we proudly operate as a walk-in salon for most of our services, making quality self-care both convenient and attainable.
How do you think about happiness?
To this day, the satisfaction of giving our clients what they want is a huge source of my happiness. The bond I have with my clients is as close as family. They tell me about their life and confide in me and I love knowing they are always welcome to be their true self at Define. The ambiance at the salon is peaceful and is often filled with laughter and positive conversations. My daughter has also graduated from UNCW and then recieived her esthetician license and is helping to carry on the Define legacy. I am very happy to know that Define won’t end with me and that my daughter will take it to newer heights.
