Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah El-Halabi.
Sarah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2017, I was in the midst of planning my wedding. After securing the details on the location and date for my wedding, it was time to start ordering invitations. I knew I wanted to mix the religious aspect of our faith into our invitation but with more of a modern twist. I went into my local stationary shop and browsed through their catalog of wedding-related invitations. As I browsed through each page, I noticed all other faiths and languages with the exception of Islam and Arabic. I mentioned to the employee I wanted this beautiful Arabic calligraphy on my invitation. She then explained to me that it would be a $100 customization fee. I was so shocked but desperate to have m invitations completed to send out. After my wedding was over, I thought to myself why should other brides deal with the same issue? And why aren’t there other options than ordering my invitations from overseas and risk misspellings and shipping delays. That’s what sparked the idea to create my own line of wedding invitations that cater to the modern Muslim bride.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Creating your own small business is never smooth. You have to figure out everything by yourself with a lot of trial and error. Some weeks are amazing and so fulfilling and some weeks you just question whether you should keep going. Being a wife, a new mom, and working a full-time job in the biotech/pharma industry leaves little time for my small business but I love being able to create and share my work to others to enjoy that it makes it worthwhile.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At SarahsDesignsCo, LLC, we cater to the modern Muslim bride, from wedding favors to ring boxes, to invitations. As I evolve to a the life of a new mom, I have started to carry baby products as well! All our products can be found on our Etsy shop!
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Over the years, I’ve seen more and more people aim towards digital invitations rather than physical invitations. I have started to offer digital services as well as physical invitations to cater to the new generation. Every year the trends in weddings changes, what was once popular one year, is now outdated and overdone. Having to keep up with trends and new products is overwhelming at times but helps widen the catalog of products we have to offer, which in turn grows my business!
