Hi Sean, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I serve as Chief Executive Officer of The Downsizers, leading the company with a deep commitment to service, integrity, and genuine compassion for families navigating life transitions. Hand-selected by our founder as the next steward of the business, I am dedicated to protecting the heart and culture that define the work.
I began my career as an educator through Teach For America and later served as a Fulbright Scholar before earning my law degree from the University of Chicago. I practiced law in North Carolina and worked as a management consultant with McKinsey & Company before pursuing an entrepreneurial path. Across each chapter, one thread has remained constant: a commitment to love people through serving, learning, building, teaching, and sharing.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. Two tragedies, the loss of my father at age 15 when he was 44 to a stroke, and the loss of my mother a decade later were defining moments in my story. The proximity of their loss and its impact on my family and my perspective help shape the attitude I bring to my interactions with people everyday, as well as leading The Downsizers.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
We see tremendous demand for our services, both in moves to senior communities (such as continuing care retirement communities [CCRCs] and 55+ neighborhoods) as well as aging in place. There are more people over the age of 65 in the United States now than there have have ever been in this country’s history. How and where they age and handle the things they value most is one of the most pressing issues of this point time.
