Today we’d like to introduce you to Sommer Sholtes.
Sommer, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started in the event industry by offering event rentals, draping design, floral design and then planning services. After traveling to many states for luxury weddings, I began consultation work which ultimately lead me to purchasing a venue.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
NO! Owning a business will always have struggles. Owning a business will have many learning experiences no matter who you are, and of course, there will be things that you cannot control, but you have to work through with grace, professionalism and integrity. I know COVID was the hardest things to go through since I have been in the wedding industry. This was a learning time and experience for everyone, but we worked through it, and honestly, it helped grow our business so I think it is important to look at these opportunities, find the positive and grow!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The Providence Cotton Mill is an old, historic building that was built in 1888, and it is the foundation of a lot of history in Maiden, NC which is a quick 40 minute trip down highway 16 from Charlotte. The lighting at the mill is unbeatable. The natural walls are the perfect backdrop, and the landscaping is the icing on the cake. The mill helps to provide a European feel to any event. Photographers from all over host classes at the venue because of how amazing the mill photographs. We host some of the most stunning weddings that guests constantly talk about.
