Inspiring Conversations with Stephen Corbin of Corbin Cleaning

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephen Corbin.

Stephen, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been working as an optician at Myeyedr for 4 years at the time and in march when Covid occurred, everyone at the store was out of work for three months.

Instead of being lazy and waiting it out, I thought about how I could make a difference in the community during a really tough time. As sanitation became more and more important, I decided to start a cleaning company. Having a background in cleaning growing up with my mother who cleaned condos and government buildings, I took action and started Corbin Cleaning since I had so much time on my hands.

Fast forward a year and a half later, I met the right people and began cleaning 5-10 houses a month with my roommate and a 10000sq ft building we do three times a week used for physical therapy. I am now part-time at Myeyedr and still continuing to pursue customers in and around the triangle.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some struggles started when getting off the ground and deciding which marketing tactic would be the best to use to gain customers from my target market. Time management has become tougher now working two jobs and being able to handle a consistent schedule.

Long hours can be draining but have grown stronger mentally and physically since starting. Lastly, sacrificing fun overwork more has led to less balance but know it will pay off in the end

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As the owner of Corbin Cleaning, I take care of all marketing, inventory of products, scheduling, and providing excellent customer service by cleaning their home or office. What separates my business from others is that it’s only two people so unlike a larger corporation you know who you’re dealing with and can gain trust and transparency knowing the job will be done the way the customer wants.

Working in customer service for over 12 years, I knew this would shine and let customers know I really care about what I do and how hard I aim to please. Brand-wise, I’m most proud of being able to use my last name to name the company. I’m able to grow a brand around my last name and keep a stellar reputation. Our services are fairly priced and extremely reliable. Even though I work two jobs I’m not afraid to go out of my way to accommodate the customer the best I can.

My employee and I also have an extremely strong work ethic. No matter how big, small, hard, or easy the job is we are going to clean it the same way no matter what. Customers realize how hard we work and their reaction during the walk-through after we’re completed makes it all worth it. We offer standard cleaning, deep cleaning, move out cleaning, commercial cleaning, and post-renovation/construction cleaning

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
People would be surprised to know I’m someone who is never satisfied.

There are times when I remain content but in my mind, I’m always thinking forward. I’m constantly thinking about the next step on how I can better myself and my company… but also I care more about others than myself more than I probably should.

I am starting to realize how to balance keeping others happy while doing things for myself too.
