Inspiring Conversations with Sylvia Salazar of JPAR Legacy Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sylvia Salazar.

Sylvia Salazar

Hi Sylvia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am an Iowa Native and moved to North Carolina earlier this year. After I graduated from the University of Iowa with a business degree, I decided to venture out to the East Coast.

I’ve always known I had an entrepreneurial spirit, but soon after moving, I decided to go back to school to get my broker’s license and work in real estate.

It wasn’t as easy as it sounds, either. I had worked in various industries and enjoyed it but wanted something different. I had felt a little lost after college and had a hard time finding a job I was happy in. It took a lot of soul searching and advice from friends until I found myself in real estate.

I am very happy in my career now and decided to add another side business of becoming a mobile notary and loan signing agent. I found great mentors who have helped me with this whole process. It was hard starting over in a different state without knowing anyone, but I feel like I needed this push to get to where I am now.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There had been many challenges along the way. I had moved home for a year to figure out what I wanted to do next. I struggled with finding a job and was unemployed after college; my drive diminished as I constantly compared myself to others my age who had accomplished so much more.

Once I found myself in real estate the challenges kept coming. Since I didn’t have much of a network here, I found myself door-knocking every weekend to get business and going to networking events in the area. However, I did find myself with a great support system to help me overcome my thoughts of being a failure.

I think that I held so much pride in being able to find work on my own that I didn’t take any help in the beginning when I needed it. I felt a lot of stress because I wanted to show my parents that I could be successful, after all my dad immigrated to the U.S. to give us a better life, and how could I ever repay him if I never became successful. Being the daughter of an immigrant, I felt responsible somehow to carry on the hopes and dreams of my lineage. I think that every child can relate to wanting to make their parents proud.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about JPAR Legacy Group?
JPAR is the brokerage I joined soon after getting my license. I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this amazing group of realtors. They have been extremely supportive of me and my journey and offer the best mentors.

Since beginning, I’ve had the privilege of helping first-time homebuyers. I take pride in being a reliable and trustworthy advisor to my clients. I am extremely attentive to ensure a smooth and knowledgeable transaction.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t think luck played a role. It was a lot of hard work and dedication to get to where I am today. I didn’t rely on luck to get me the opportunities I needed to succeed. I put myself out there and took a risk in my career change.

I do believe it was words of encouragement and positive affirmations to be able to accomplish all that I did.
