Today we’d like to introduce you to Thomas Watt.
Thomas, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I graduated from chiropractic school in 2020, with a passion to serve people. I’ve always known I wanted to serve people and improve their overall quality of life, and chiropractic is the avenue in which I decided to do that. Once I opened the
I have always had a passion for serving people. Often in high school this manifested as missions trips. I loved being able to use my own two hands to serve people. This is how I decided I wanted to be a chiropractor. After growing up going to the chiropractor, I still wasn’t prepared for the amount of change we could see in people’s lives by utilizing chiropractic care. I graduated from chiropractic school in December 2020, and knew I wanted to open my own practice. I knew there were many other chiropractors I could work for, but I had a bigger vision than just being a cog in someone else’s machine. I had a vision to create not just one office that served our town, but building to create multiple offices in multiple towns. Finding ways not just to serve the patients on my table, but to set up a business that can serve more and do more than I could on my own. In December 2021 I opened Pinecrest Chiropractic. Since then, it has been a wild ride! We have grown from seeing 45 patient visits in our first month to over 1000 patient visits each month. We grew from being a solo doctor office, with no staff, to now we have two full time chiropractors, and four support staff. We haven’t grown to have multiple locations yet. Yet being the key word there! We are on track to be able to open another office in 2027, expanding our out reach. There have been a lot things we have learned the hard way, and many ways we have seen God move not just in my life, but in the lives of our patients and our community.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We have been very blessed throughout our journey. Yes there were bumps along the way, but our struggles pale in comparison to others. It was a struggle to get funding to start. Being fresh out of school, most banks considered us high risk, and to their point, we were. I had to talk to over 20 different banks and lenders to be able to get the money we needed to start up. The next struggles were learning how to run a business. When running something like a chiropractic office, you walk a fine line between clinical care and best business practices. I also didn’t go to business school, I went to chiropractic school. My clinical skills were great, but my business skills were brand new. In the end though, if you take good care of people, everything else falls into place. We’ve hired coaches and other team members to fill in the gaps where we needed, but we are continually blessed. For many things that are usually huge struggles in our area, like finding space, buildout costs, and generating new leads, I have no other answer besides God, because these went smoother than they should have.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our office is on a mission. We are on a mission to educate and adjust as many families within our community as possible through chiropractic care. Pointing them towards optimal health and wellness, not just avoiding pain. It has become the common practice with our culture to not chase or improve our health, but to just avoid sickness. We are missing the entire point! The goal shouldn’t be to be “not sick”, the goal should to be HEALTHY! The problem is very few people take the time to define what healthy means to them, and instead are just left with healthy means you’re not sick. On our first appointment we go through goals with every patient, writing down immediate, short term, and long term goals. This is the first step to truly defining what healthy means to that specific patient, and helps us create a plan to help them reach their goals. Once we know the destination, it’s much easier to create a plan and path to get there. One of the awesome things about our office is that we have multiple different tools at our disposal to help patients get to their goals. The best tool we’ve got is the chiropractic adjustment, but we supplement that with rehabilitation exercises, dry needling, shockwave, laser, and more. Each tool has a different purpose and allows us to treat anything from tradition chiropractic patients, to plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, even neuropathy. It’s so much fun to watch patient figure out what makes them happy, and what motivates them to relentlessly chase after their goals. We just get to help them along the way.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
It has been a blast to watch Pinecrest Chiropractic grow. With the growth we have been able to increase our outreach. Not only serving more people, but serving different conditions and different patient demographics. I can only be in one place at a time. And as great as our office is, it can’t be everything to everyone. Building up a local network of other providers and other small businesses to support our patients and their needs has been a crucial part of serving our patients. The biggest support and collaboration we can have is when we find other groups who want nothing more to serve their community, and networking with them.
