Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendy White.
Hi Wendy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
With professional roots in Raleigh, North Carolina, my career began with the City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department. In those early days, I supervised the Raleigh Youth Council and Camp Ranoca programs. When I first joined, my boss handed me a stack of files and said, “read through these and when the kids come in on Monday night, they can fill you in on the rest. Let me know if you have any questions.” And with that, my career journey was launched.
What quickly became clear was that while programs thrived, the staff who ran them needed deeper learning and development support. In the early 1990s, along with teammates, Lisa Marie Main and Carol Moore, we began designing training and team retreats for Parks and Recreation staff. Out of that grassroots work, we created our first consulting firm RETREATS, Inc.—Reaching Excellence Through Recreation, Education, and Adventure Training Strategies. It took an all-night strategy session to come up with that acronym!
We were among the first to take corporate teams onto ropes courses and catamarans, and kayaks to teach trust, communication, collaboration and change. Yet, over time, we realized something essential: adventure created powerful moments, but lasting change required more. That realization birthed what is now Continuum Consulting Services—a practice that blends experiential learning with strategic consulting, coaching, system-wide transformation, and regenerative leadership.
In parallel, I launched Let’s Choose Love, a nonprofit dedicated to creating a world where Love Rules. We do this by distributing catalyst grants funding people’s give back dreams and then amplifying the stories of ordinary people doing good in the world. We are about to launch our podcast called Love on Record. As of today, we have funded over 100 projects around the country that focus on education, environment, social justice and arts and culture initiatives, proving that transformation comes not only from institutions but from everyday people daring to choose love.
Though I now live in Asheville, I return often to Raleigh. I am deeply proud that my roots are there—and that the city continues to shape who I am and how I lead.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Hardly. We have been in business for 30 years, and like the leaders we serve, we’ve navigated economic downturns, cultural shifts, a global pandemic, and most recently Hurricane Helene, which tore through Western North Carolina. At times, the very tools we teach—resilience, presence, belonging—were the ones we relied on most to sustain us.
On a personal level, the greatest challenge has been learning how to serve wholeheartedly while sustaining the resources and energy to keep going. Launching Let’s Choose Love meant stepping into the unknown without a roadmap, guided only by conviction. Yet every challenge reaffirmed an important truth: meaningful work is rarely linear. It is adaptive, regenerative, and deeply human.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Continuum Consulting Services?
Continuum Consulting Services partners with leaders and organizations as they navigate complexity with courage and clarity. We specialize in leadership and team development, cultural transformation, and regenerative practices—working not just on what leaders do, but how they are being. Retreats remain central to our approach, offering space for leaders to slow down, reflect, and return renewed.
Let’s Choose Love (LCL) complements this by investing directly in grassroots leadership. Continuum dedicates 5% of gross sales to support our give-back efforts, including contributions to 1% for the Planet and our nonprofit initiatives. Through $500–$1,000 Catalyst Mini-Grants, LCL supports projects that address social challenges with creativity, connection, and courage.
What makes me proud is how these two worlds intersect: organizational leadership and community empowerment. Both are about cultivating environments where people belong, grow, and lead from love rather than fear.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
This questions has changed from when we got the original form. The question Wendy answered is: What is something surprising that most people who know you or your work might not know about you?
People often know me as a strategist and facilitator, but what they might not know is how much joy I find outside of the boardroom. I’m a passionate dog owner who believes in the grounding, unconditional love animals bring into our lives. I also spend as much time as I can on the water—kayaking has been a way for me to restore perspective, reconnect with nature, and bring balance to the fast pace of leadership work.
Another piece that sometimes surprises people: I’m also an author. Writing has given me another outlet to explore themes of leadership, resilience, and connection, and it allows me to share those insights more widely. These facets of my life—companionship with my dog, time paddling rivers, and the discipline of writing—are part of what keeps me whole and energized to do the work I love.
