Today we’d like to introduce you to Will Armstrong.

Hi Will, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I have always had a desire to be an entrepreneur and own my own business, my earliest example of this was my first job in high school when I began my own landscaping business which quickly became more successful than I could have imagined at that age.

Getting a traditional job never occurred to me, I saw a need and I knew I could meet it, at the time it truly seemed that simple. Unfortunately, that all had to come to an end when I went off to college, where I went on to obtain a degree in business. After school that desire to begin my own business was still as present as ever, but what was missing was something I was truly passionate about.

That passion began to cultivate quickly when I took a job as a project manager with a national homebuilder. However, I still felt there was something lacking, which was the ability to grow with uncapped potential, act as a leader, and embrace my desire for creativity, all of which entrepreneurship offers.

I had found what I was passionate about, the only thing left was to take the next step and that is how Oak City Remodeling came to fruition. However, I can now say it is anything but simple.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Few things in life worth having come easy, I think any business owner can attest to this. Beginning a business in the midst of a global pandemic made the unknowns that much more of a gamble.

Add in watching other new businesses falter in this unforgiving economy, it was something that placed a lot of doubt in my mind. However, I saw a need within the community and felt confident my drive, passion, ethics, and craftsmanship would guide me to withstand the undoubtedly trying times ahead.

At present, as many new businesses face, establishing a good reputation is something that will take a lot of time, trust, and patience. A bumpy road should never stop you if you believe the destination is worth it.

Oak City Remodeling specializes in residential remodeling. Services include but are not limited to: basements, attics, bathrooms, kitchens, decks, whole home remodels, etc.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Creating a business in itself is a risk, risk-taking and business will always be intertwined. However, while risks are an inevitable and unavoidable part of any business it is important to distinguish the difference between taking risks just for the sake of it and calculated risks.

In many situations, I have depended on my experience and expertise to make the best decision at the moment. However, sometimes in order for a business to truly flourish, you must first be willing to remove the safety net. It is also important to note that if others had not first taken a risk on me, I would never have made it to where I am today.

Where there is risk there is also the possibility of great reward.
