Juia Golden of Raleigh on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Juia Golden. Check out our conversation below.

Juia , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
I recently co-wrote a song with my good friend Garrett Huffman called “Born in the Carolinas”. We wrote the song on a visit to Nashville and Garrett actually produced it in Nashville with Savio Studios. He did such a good job with the song and I was honored to sing back up vocals on it. We just found out that Pepsi picked it up for their regional campaign. It’s so special! I’m so proud to be born and raised in North Carolina.

I’m also super proud that I was asked to open for Chris Lane at his show in Pinehurst, NC. My very first country concert that I ever attended was a Chris Lane show, so it really felt like a full circle moment for me.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
When it comes to my music and my style, think Stevie Nicks meets Lainey Wilson with a little Chris Stapleton…

I think what makes me interesting is that I LOVE the human experience. When I’m on the stage and I see people reacting to my music whether they’re sad, happy or dancing all of the place it brings me so much joy. I try to be truly authentic and I believe that comes across in my songwriting.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
That would be hands down my parents. They have been supportive since day one. I remember telling them at the age of 15 that I wanted to move all of the way from our home in North Carolina to Michigan to attend Interlochen Arts Academy. My goal was to pursue a career in musical theater. They supported that decision 100%. When I decided I didn’t want to return my senior year because I wanted to pursue being a singer/songwriter, they didn’t hesitate and have been hauling equipment and driving to gigs all across the southeast ever since.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
The only time I feel like I ever gave up was last year. It wasn’t because I lost my passion though. It was because I was suffering from burn out. As a musician you try to give 100% at every single show. Last year I performed over 230 shows. By the time October came around, I was exhausted. I just couldn’t imagine doing more shows.

It was a learning lesson for me though. I realized you cannot physically do that many shows without suffering from getting sick more often or burning out- This year, I am performing half of what I did last year.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that my family really matters to me. Aside from being really close with my parents and older brother. I have dozens of cousins and aunts and uncles that are from all across the country and I love them all dearly. One of the reasons I love the holidays so much is because we all come together and I get to see so many of my family that I don’t get to see throughout the year.

And my rescue dogs Stevie and Scarlett also really. matter to me. They are absolutely perfect!

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am doing what I was born to do. I’m so fortunate to have such supportive parents. It’s me who has dragged them all across the country to chase this dream I have. If I told them tomorrow that I wanted to stop and return to college, they would support that decision too. I wish more people had that.
