Lamar Atkins of charlotte on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Lamar Atkins and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Lamar, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
I wake up at 7:00 am, make coffee then scroll on social media until the coffee is ready. Thereafter I drink my coffee .. because without it … my day can’t start .. then I start making a list on my phone of all of the things I have to do .. Normally, I am pulling up beats or seeing what mixes have been done from my engineer – then making notes – also creating new ideas for content or reaching out for collabs – I also like to take a walk some days to clear my mind more or start of by meditating .. after coffee..

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey, I’m Lamar aka iamlamarmusic
I make music that comes from a real place. Everything I create is inspired by the highs, lows, and lessons of my own journey, and I try to pour that honesty into every lyric and melody. My sound blends soulful vibes with modern R&B and hip-hop influences, but at the core, it’s all about connection.

As an independent artist, I take pride in staying true to who I am. My brand is built on authenticity — no filters, no gimmicks, just real stories and real emotion. Whether I’m in the studio, on stage, or interacting with supporters, I always want people to feel something when they hear my music.

Right now, I’m focused on expanding my catalog, collaborating with other creatives, and building a community around music that speaks to the heart. For me, it’s bigger than just making songs — it’s about sharing my story, inspiring others, and creating a space where people feel seen and understood.

Thanks for taking the time to get to know me. There’s a lot more on the way.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I felt most powerful when I was performing, growing up I would perform for my family and make up skits to later on in life when I had professional experiences. I feel most powerful on stage.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I think as an independent artist that thought is always looming. I have been lucky to have a small team of people I work with. Although, when you speak authentically, sometimes it can take people a moment to listen. So each day I try to wake up and manifest what my emotions to be for the day. Numbers come and go, but my story and music will remain.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
loyalty to those whom love you and yourself, freedom to be creative and my art

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope that my story would include fond memories of how I made them feel accepted, loved and seen. I would hope they would say, “Wow” he really did never give up .
