Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Assata Amani of Fayetteville

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Assata Amani. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Assata, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
What brings me joy as of lately is spending time alone to journal, study the bible, and working out. Working out has really shifted my perspective as it pertains to not only aesthetics but mindset as well. Working out is the best form of self-care for me.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Assata Amani, a musician and creator currently based on the East Coast of the United States. I move around quite frequently here and it is home. I love to not only make great music but be a part of my communities as well. My brand is that of a mother and artist balancing everything quite flawlessly if I say so myself. What makes me unique is my ability to withstand the darkness and create art that is about light. It’s my gift.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
Strangely enough, my earliest memory of feeling powerful is when I got an 100 on a poetry book when I was about 6 years old. From then I knew I had a gift with my words and my ability to formulate meaningful art.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of being successful has been my achilles heel in many cases. We are so powerful and so creative as humans and it is easy to be fearful of our potential. Especially when we hop online and see the ills of the world. Yet, with understanding that over the past couple of years I have now formed a “safe space” within myself and my relationship with God. I know God has blessed me with gifts that will change lives and for that I am grateful. I just began doing the work and stopped hindering my growth. Saying “yes” to more opportunities and not being afraid to fail. Because failure is not a real thing. You live and you learn and you grow. Keep pushing.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
They are overthinking. That is the best way to put it. When you overthink you give way to fear and doubt and that is not why we are on earth. We are here to grow and to get better with time.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If immortality were real, what would you build?
I would build a place designed for creatives and artists to network freely and be their authentic creative selves. It would have creative spaces to help the artists work together and create magic from their minds. Equipped with cameras, backdrops, and more. I think if more creatives had the opportunities to create magic- they would.
