We recently had the chance to connect with Kyndal McDuffie and have shared our conversation below.
Kyndal , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
“Yes, I would hire me.”
I would hire myself because I’m dependable, coachable, and I understand that sports photography is about more than just taking strong images but it’s about telling the story of the game in real time. I work in fast-paced athletic environments where moments only happen once, so I’ve learned how to anticipate plays, stay composed under pressure, and capture images that make fans feel like they were there.
I also bring value beyond the camera. I understand social media strategy, deadlines, and branding, which means I shoot with intention. Every frame is created with performance in mind whether it’s for Instagram, X, or game-day graphics. I’ve helped grow athletic programs’ platforms by thousands of followers, and that comes from knowing how to create content that people actually engage with.
If there’s one reason someone might hesitate, it’s that I’m always pushing myself to improve experimenting with new angles, refining edits, and sharpening my storytelling. But I see that as a strength. I take feedback seriously, show up early, stay ready, and commit to getting better every game.
That combination of skill, mindset, and work ethic is why I’d hire me.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Kyndal McDuffie, and I’m a sports photographer and the creator of KSM Photography, a brand built around storytelling through the lens. I don’t just document games; I aim to capture the emotion, grit, and moments that define an athlete’s journey, from the highs of competition to the quiet intensity in between plays. My goal is for viewers to feel like they were there when they see my work.
KSM Photography is rooted in authenticity, access, and intention. I work in fast-paced athletic environments where moments happen once, so I’m always anticipating the story as it unfolds in real time. Beyond photography, I understand how visuals live on social media and digital platforms, allowing me to create content that not only looks strong but also connects with fans and helps programs grow their presence.
In addition to sports, I’m currently expanding KSM Photography into studio and real estate photography, bringing the same attention to detail, composition, and storytelling into controlled and architectural spaces. Right now, I’m continuing to grow across collegiate and competitive sports while collaborating with teams, brands, media outlets, and clients who value intentional visuals over simple highlights.
Everything I create is driven by one belief: sports and storytelling as a whole are about people, and every frame should reflect the heart behind the work.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that most shaped how I see myself is my relationship with my mom. Growing up with a single mother wasn’t easy, but she never allowed that to define me. She and my family constantly spoke life, confidence, and positivity into me, always reminding me that I was meant to become something greater and to be a blessing to others. That foundation shaped how I carry myself and how I view my purpose.
Equally impactful is my relationship with God. While I’ve always known God, this past year I made it a priority to truly deepen that relationship. As I’ve grown in faith, I’ve gained wisdom and clarity, learning that we were placed on this earth for creative expression in whatever form that may take. Through that creativity, we reveal the work of God and who He is.
In pursuing purpose and furthering His kingdom, I’ve learned to trust that God provides the tools, direction, and promises needed to walk confidently in what we’re called to do.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear that held me back the most was the fear of rejection and failure. Starting my own business while deciding to return to school to pursue my M.B.A. came with a lot of uncertainty, trial and error, and moments of self-doubt. There were many late nights when I questioned whether the work would pay off or if anyone would truly see the value in what I was creating.
But I also knew the path I wanted to pursue, even when it felt uncomfortable or unclear. Choosing to keep going despite that fear taught me resilience, patience, and trust in the process. This opportunity is a living testament that stepping forward, especially when you’re unsure can lead you exactly where you’re meant to be.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Myself. Growth is an ongoing journey. As people, we are constantly evolving into the versions of ourselves we’re meant to become. I’m committed to growing because no matter how long it takes I am committed to becoming the best version of myself. Focusing on yourself is one of the most important forms of self-care.
My favorite quote is:
” Every moment of discipline is building something undeniable, shaping the version of you that will consistently show up when it matters most. Growth doesn’t happen overnight; it’s built through intention, consistency, and patience.
“Start each day with intention.”
— Twan Flip Jr.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
1000% yes. Through trials and navigating relationships, I’ve learned that what other people think or say doesn’t define me. People will always have opinions positive or negative but nobody actually sees the work you put in: the late nights editing, the quiet hours spent formulating posts, and the discipline it takes to keep going when no one is watching.
I’ve realized that my purpose can’t be shaped by outside noise. I’m doing this because I want to leave a legacy and make a real impact on the world. Staying true to that mission keeps me grounded, focused, and committed to showing up fully, regardless of the distractions along the way.
