Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Mattie Weingarten-Pardy of Boone and Charlotte

Mattie Weingarten-Pardy shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Mattie, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I love anything that keeps me off a screen. I recently started taking mahjong lessons with Eastside Mahjong and it’s been such a good workout for my brain! I played a lot of soccer as a kid, and now my son is old enough to play too. It’s been insanely sweet and fun to kick around with him in our backyard and it brings me straight back to my own childhood.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a mom, wife and small business owner in Charlotte, NC. I founded my private practice in 2020 with the vision of therapist sustainability to try and prevent early burnout. Our mission is to keep therapists healthy — because they’re emotional athletes, and peak performance requires real support.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I’ve always been a deep feeler, and I really believed I was too sensitive for any kind of therapeutic job. By leaning into my empathy rather than resenting it or fighting against it, I think I’ve turned it into a force for good.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You’ll be fine! I spent so much time worrying about how things were going to work out instead of just enjoying the moment and being present. Life moves fast, and I wish I’d focused on the freedom and flexibility of my teens and twenties versus trying to propel myself into the next phase. Everything worked out better than I could’ve imagined, so I might as well have just appreciated everything as it happened.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
My dear friend Chelsea is one of my greatest personal influences. We’re opposites in so many ways, and she’s taught me how to care less about what people think and have more fun. She is easily one of the most honest and authentic people I’ve ever met, and really helps me keep my people-pleasing tendencies in check. We’ve been through most seasons of life together now (college, twenties, marriage, motherhood) and I’m thankful to have her from taking myself too seriously.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
No! I don’t know anyone who can give everything their best, especially all the time. I have days when I’m a solid therapist/practice owner but a crappy friend or wife, and days when I’m an excellent daughter or mom but don’t give work a second thought. I try to do the best I can in any given moment, but my best probably isn’t perfect and I’m okay with that.
