We recently had the chance to connect with Shamecca Freeman and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Shamecca, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
Ever since high school, I’ve always stated that I’m on a journey. But the path I’m walking is not what I thought it’d be. There are so many twists, surprises, and moments of feeling defeated, but it all comes full circle.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Shamecca, the founder of Peculiar Perfection Wigs. I specialize in premium glueless HD-lace wigs designed to look effortless, feel comfortable, and protect your natural hair, especially your edges. My brand was born from a lifelong love of hair and a desire to make routines simple for everyday women.
Currently, I’m expanding my work through education, content, and community-building to help women feel informed, empowered, and at ease with their beauty choices.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that has served its purpose and now needs to be released is my deep introvertedness. For a season, being set apart was necessary. Solitude gave me clarity, protection, and space to grow. But that comfort in solitude quietly turned into isolation.
So I’ve realized that in this season, growth will not come from isolation. It will come from being in community. I’m learning that being guarded isn’t the same as being grounded, and that I don’t lose myself by letting people in, and that it’s okay to show the other sides of me.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely, and honestly, more times than I can count. There were seasons where I felt stuck, unseen, and exhausted from pouring into something that didn’t seem to be pouring back into me. I questioned my timing, my ability, and whether the vision was even worth carrying anymore.
Looking back, those moments refined me. They taught me resilience, patience, and how to keep going without losing myself in the process. I always remind myself that if I lived in my car for 7 months at 19, I can figure out anything else.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
As a humbly smart person myself, what we’re getting wrong is thinking that being smart is enough. It’s not. We can do all of the planning in the world, but when it comes to execution and consistency, it’s either you do it or you don’t. I don’t think people talk enough about how hard being consistent, especially as a small business owner who wears all the hats, actually is. I used to roll my eyes when I heard people say, “How bad do you want it”? It seemed like an insult at the time because I was doing all the work (planning). But looking back, my execution was lacking.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I am at rest. Nothing to do, with nothing to stress about. That often comes when I choose to just chill, you know? 2025 taught me that if I continue striving even when I know I am at my capacity, it only makes me more frustrated and stressed. So I’ve learned to rest without guilt; that’s when I feel the most at peace.
