Life & Work with Amber Little of Downtown Fayetteville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Little.

Hi Amber, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always been a constant learner, and that has led to a plethora of opportunities throughout my adult life. I have sold insurance, taught ballroom dancing, and taught pre-k. In 2022, I started working with a nonprofit in Robeson County on a temporary grant to build a marketing department. Once my time at the organization was over, I couldn’t imagine doing anything else besides marketing. I started my marketing business at the end of the spring in 2023. I focused on individuals who were looking to bulk up marketing for their small business or organization. At the same time, I started writing for a local community-based publication. Through my writing, I kept meeting more and more individuals who needed marketing services but didn’t have the budget to hire bigger firms in the area. I live in the downtown area and conduct 90% of my business downtown. I have come to know the individuals who live, work, and play downtown. I have several clients in the area, and I make a conscience effort to write about all of the events and specials going on.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth ride, but I don’t know any business owner who didn’t/hasn’t struggled. Fayetteville is a big city, but it still has the elements of a small town. People have known each other their whole lives here. I am a Bladen County girl. I was raised in Elizabethtown, NC. Coming into the city and trying to make a name for myself was a journey. I had to prove that I knew what I was doing, and I was very good at it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
The list of things that I don’t do is far shorter. I am a marketing specialist, social media manager, content creator, mentor, and local storyteller. I am community-focused in everything I do. I teach networking and Canva classes for business owners who need the knowledge and know-how to build the foundation of their network and branding. I also teach networking and business branding classes. I am known in the city as the go-to marketing person. Need a website? Need a quick video for social media? Need a podcast host or event host? I am the person to call. I’m most proud of the fact that 98% of my business comes from word-of-mouth. I don’t have a website, just an email, phone number, and happy clients. What sets me apart from other firms in the area that do what I do is that I am a one-woman show. I only take on 5 clients at a time, and I am completely hands-on. I am also the Assistant ED for a local nonprofit that focuses on mentoring community youth and providing resources from monetary to mental health support. Our focus is on ensuring ALL of Fayetteville’s youth have a good foundation to become successful.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Community. One thing I noticed about people is that they will complain about where they live, but often do little to nothing to actually make those things better. I was raised to be active in my community. I live, work, and play in Fayetteville, so I am invested in the businesses, organizations, and people here. I want Fayetteville to grow to its highest potential, and one way that I can do that is by telling its stories.
