Life & Work with Annick Lenoir-Peek

Today we’d like to introduce you to Annick Lenoir-Peek.

Hi Annick, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I’ve always loved traveling – it’s in my blood! I was born in Venezuela to French Canadian parents, and we lived in many countries as I was growing up.

When I would travel, friends and family would ask me my tips for finding destinations or how to save money while traveling. Then friends started asking if they could travel with me. I like immersing myself in the culture, which means walking through the streets, talking to people, and trying the local food.

One of the things I really pride myself on is finding something unique and adventurous. Solo travel has become a more recent addition to my travels – I encourage others to find their happiness through travel. Whether I’m enjoying group travel, a girls’ weekend, or a solo adventure, traveling is my happy place, and I share it with others in the hope it will be for them as well.

The Common Traveler was born to share my tips and adventures and to encourage others to do the same.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
COVID certainly took a toll on travel and people reading about travel. But now people are anxious to explore, and readers want to see more than just “things to do in x destination.” They want to know what is worth visiting and spending their time and money at each location.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My travel website, The Common Traveler, explores destinations near and far. I love coffee, breweries, and souvenirs, so you’ll find a lot of articles about these on the website.

I’m not a fan of art museums, so my travel recommendations are about finding fun things to do in various destinations. I especially like trying local foods and drinks, so I post a lot about that.

I’m most proud of encouraging people to embrace travel no matter what shape they’re in and no matter what their prior travel experience has been. Discovering the Triangle and North Carolina is a great way to start.

So maybe we end by discussing what matters most to you and why.
I want The Common Traveler to be informative and encouraging for my readers. I want people to get an honest opinion about the destination they’re considering. I like to share tips that I’ve discovered either about special places or ways to improve their experience. Everyone’s travel experience should be the best it can be.
