Life & Work with Arvetra Domonic Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arvetra Domonic Jones.

Hi Arvetra Domonic, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Thank you for asking… I am Arvetra Domonic Jones, of Aberdeen North Carolina. I am the son of Arvetra and Ruth Jones. I am an artist, via music and sport. I am also a sport and entertainment manager and coach for myself and others. I first learned about artistry through playing instruments at church. I started writing and drafting my own songs and lyrics by age 5 or 6. At that same age, I started playing sports (particularly, basketball). I got my undergraduate degree in Sociology from Saint Augustine’s University; I got my master’s degree in Social Work, from North Carolina Central University. I believe that one purpose in my life is to find ways to help evolve the ecosystem of the historically black college and university. I currently reside in Durham North Carolina with my wife (Rotcelis M. Jones) and two sons (Arvetra Santana, and Luca Saez). I have a few organizations that I am thankful for, in my life. These organizations keep me healthy, and leverageable.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I still face struggles as a business entity. I use to view them as racial issues. Now I see them as means to grow and understand more ways of the world that I am living in. There aren’t any challenges that stand out more than others. All obstacles have played a significant part in my life cycle.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a singer, songwriter, music producer, and artist consultant with 20+ years of credited experience in the music industry. My father, Arvetra Jones Jr is a hall of fame inducted radio announcer. My grandfather, Arvetra Jones Sr, was an established soul artist and public speaker in the 1960s. I have written songs and produced music for national recording artists, as well as independent artists. I have also been blessed to have some of my music in films. Music runs in my veins, and there isn’t anything I can do to stop the veins of music from pumping! I aspire to be all that I need to be, in MUSIC!

I am the CEO of a social advocacy organization for school aged students and athletes by the name of Back to Basics. I am a health and wellness coach/trainer for myself and others. I am a father to Arvetra Santana, and Luca Saez. I am the husband of Rotcelis. I am evolving; I am!

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I am not afraid to take risks, however, I have a healthy dose of people around me that are selective and strategic about the risks they take. I like to listen to the people around me, including myself, in order to get a proper assessment of what to do next, in regards to risk management.
