Today we’d like to introduce you to Aubrey Ways.
Hi Aubrey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I have been an artist my whole life. I just never knew what my purpose was in the art world. Growing up, all I knew was perseverance. From the first day, I was diagnosed with idiopathic chronic pancreatitis to the day I graduated college with a degree in Visual Arts Media Design, my life has been an uncanny roller-coaster ride of ups and downs but most of all growth.
I never realized while lying in my hospital bed for numerous years doodling, tracing, and designing minuscule little cards and posters on Microsoft Publisher would spark the creative drive that would mold me into the artist I am today. Honored to be at five 300+ attendee events, four magazine publications, three big press released interviews, and two national event tours, one coach of the year award, I am on the track to be blessed with one of the best creative years in my life coming up.
Me holding my Fourth Brown Sugar Fashion Gala Event after two successful NYFW shows, the Covid-19 pandemic, and my alma maters homecoming being the same week will make this the biggest fashion event I’ve put on so far, and I’m mostly excited to bring this opportunity to the community that birthed into the renaissance man I’ve become.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No, going through nine years of my life with chronic illness No support from my immediate family when I first became an “Artist.” Quitting my full-time job right before I held my first music festival and fashion show went to four different high schools.
Almost flunked out of college before transferring to the school of the arts and prospering.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have two sides of me: 1. I own my own entertainment and event planning company, which I hold Cultura Fest and Brown Sugar Fashion Gala, under-professional contracted Graphic Designer, Media Specialist, Visual Director, and Photographer.
What sets me apart is my actual love for the camera and for the art of design. I study consistently, I have been an apprentice, I went to school for this on top of it coming natural, I believe I can make anything, person or object look beautiful or any stare when I close my lens on a subject.
2. Head of high school men’s and women’s track and field, 2021 District Coach of the Year, Junior Olympic Hurdle Coach, and Personal Trainer. I’m most proud of my magazine publications and my success with my events.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
My consistency and the passion behind it, as well as my unmatched ability to keep it real with everyone whether it hurts to hear or not, and most of all keeping it real with myself.
