Today we’d like to introduce you to Avree Everton.
Hi Avree, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been baking my entire life, and I got my professional start with pastry arts in 2018 with Elevations in Banner Elk. Heyday Brewery in North Raleigh hired me on as their pastry chef in February 2022.
They’ve given me the opportunity to create my own brand, take control of the dessert menu, set up a pastry case for the restaurant, and market myself how I see fit.
We hope to branch out and offer my pastries at other locations soon; updates about this expansion will be posted to @artsytartsypastries on Instagram and Facebook as those deals are settled.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Previous to the last couple of years, I was going through severe financial hardships. I was extremely intent on being independent; unfortunately, I was in my late teens/early twenties & didn’t have much schooling or experience to get higher paying jobs. So I scraped together rent with what I was able to get & slowly climbed the ladder as I gained experience. I’m thankful for the character I gained during this time, but I’m certainly relieved that it seems to be over.
I’ve been very fortunate so far in my Artsy Tartsy journey, primarily due to the support I get from friends, family, and those working alongside me in the kitchen.
Artsy Tartsy is still very very new (barely one month old), and my biggest obstacle so far has been getting visibility for the desserts I’ve put together. However, I’m confident that this will come with time.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My best-selling dessert in the past has always been my cheesecakes. I’ve spent years perfecting the recipe and can offer several flavors and alterations that are safe for those with dietary restrictions such as diabetics or gluten allergies.
However, it seems like my cookies have been a huge hit at Heyday & the pastry case is currently filled with them. I’m extremely proud of my ability to offer unique flavors or desserts that others don’t typically carry.
Recently, I have done honey lavender crème brûlée, cinnamon roll cookies, chocolate rose soufflé and blueberry basil cheesecake. I’m excited to offer vegan options to many desserts as well.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I loved being with my pets as a child. I got my Pomeranian, Ringo, for my tenth birthday & brought him everywhere with me (I still do, he’ll be 15 in May).
When we were younger, we explored the woods together, rode on an ATV, & took trips to the lake. Most of my childhood was centered around him. Now, we usually just enjoy movies at home together or short outings to get lunch or drinks when I have free time to take him out.
