Today we’d like to introduce you to Benj Builds

Hi Benj, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Growing up, I always enjoyed building LEGO. Whether it was making my favorite ships from the Star Wars universe or creating new ideas of my own, I always had a blast playing with those plastic bricks. When I went to college back in 2013, I decided to give away all of my LEGO to my best friends little brothers. I figured they would enjoy them way more than I would. I then went 8 years without owning any LEGO and then Covid hit. Like many, I got back into LEGO in a big way because of the Covid pandemic. There wasn’t a whole lot else to do at the time. I had always wanted to start a YouTube channel and create fun content that people could enjoy. So I figured I should combine the two and thus Benj Builds was born. Since then, I have made almost 150 videos ranging from building sets that LEGO sells to recreating some of my favorite video game maps from the Halo and Call of Duty franchises. It has been an absolute blast and I plan to continue making LEGO videos far into the future.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing worth doing is easy. LEGO is a very expensive toy and so figuring out how to acquire large amounts of it for cheap has been difficult, but not impossible. I have an amazing wife who is very supportive of this endeavor and that has made it very smooth for the most part.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have worked as a Software Developer since 2019, and it has a lot of the same structural but creative aspects that LEGO does.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
When it comes to content creation of any kind, if you’re on the fence about starting, don’t just sit on your hands waiting for the right, perfect moment. Just go out and make that first video or post that first picture. You won’t learn until you try and fail for a bit.
