Life & Work with Bridget Bennett of Raleigh, NC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridget Bennett

Hi Bridget , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I found myself as a single mom of four, working full-time as a paralegal, navigating a high-conflict divorce and a custody battle that felt like an unending storm. It was only as I pieced together the events of nearly a decade that I realized I had endured domestic abuse and coercive control throughout my marriage. With financial abuse stacked against me, hiring a family law attorney felt impossible, so I committed to educating myself. I learned how to weave together the details of my story and ultimately represent myself in family court.

Over the years, I faced setbacks, losing a few battles—but I won so many more. I fought not just to survive but to secure a future free from abuse for myself and my children. In the end, I won sole physical and legal custody and obtained a domestic violence protective order. That victory was monumental, a turning point.

During my journey, I immersed myself in understanding high-conflict personalities and mastering communication with individuals whose disordered behavior seemed aimed at tearing my life apart. I had a strong support system—a co-parenting communication coach, a domestic violence advocate, a skilled therapist, and a network of people who, to this day, I credit with helping save my life and the lives of my children.

As COVID hit, I began sharing pieces of my story online through TikTok and connected with a powerful community of survivors. When my battle was finally behind me, I knew it was safe to share my experiences more openly. That’s when the idea of Breaking Badass Coaching was born. It was inspired by two things: my initials, ‘BB,’ and the words of encouragement from incredible women who lifted me up during my hardest days. They reminded me over and over that I was a ‘badass’—a belief that sustained me even when I felt broken. Like a phoenix, I would rise—and I continue to rise.

Today, I guide others through navigating the family court system as pro se litigants, without the steep costs of a family law attorney. I teach them how to heal after abuse and communicate effectively with high-conflict co-parents. Everything that saved me, I now share with others.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve faced countless challenges along the way, and while I still work full-time as a paralegal, my business has become what many call a ‘side hustle.’ Yet each year, the growth has been exponential. One day, the business will be my full time job, but I have loved every step of this journey and focus on the good as it has brought so much joy to my life. I’ve learned that staying true to myself, to my beliefs, and to what I know works is essential. Consistency has been my anchor—meticulously planning every step and executing it with precision. I stay highly organized, dedicated to my plan, and that discipline has been invaluable.

What’s incredible is that my reach isn’t just limited to North Carolina. I’m able to help people across the United States, which is mind-boggling to me. Knowing that my work impacts lives far beyond my own community reaffirms my purpose every day. The messages of gratitude and photos of happy children with their healthy parent to me means more than I can express.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Breaking Badass Coaching is all about empowering single moms and individuals who find themselves in high-conflict family situations, especially those navigating the family court system without traditional legal representation. As a custody specialist and legal strategist with over 20 years of paralegal experience, I help clients learn how to represent themselves effectively, providing them with tools, templates, and strategies tailored to their specific needs. Beyond legal strategy, I’m dedicated to helping clients heal and rebuild. I provide support in areas like understanding and managing high-conflict personalities, effective communication with challenging co-parents, and finding pathways to thrive after abuse. My services are available nationwide, I’m here to support clients with the confidence and knowledge to face family court, protect their children, and build stronger, more resilient futures.

How do you define success?
I define my success by the peace I have in my life and the peace that I am able to help my clients achieve in their own lives and helping them better understand the complexities of family court.
