Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron Thompson.
Hi Cameron, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey into wedding photography was one unlike most! I was often intrigued by the art of photography and loved being behind the camera capturing candid moments of friends and family and would take obnoxious amounts of photos during family vacations. My aspirations of becoming a wedding photographer formed into a reality when I took the plunge of launching my business in 2015; however, I would say that my business really sky rocketed in 2017. As a bride myself, I was overly infatuated by my own wedding day experience and would constantly reiterate that it was “the best day EVER!” (so cliché!) Soon I realized that I could be part of everyone’s “Best Day Ever” as a career and at that point I knew I was hooked! I heavily invested in my photography career by seeking mentor based education, purchasing top of the line camera gear, launching my business social media platforms and prioritizing my client experience. We pride ourselves on the wedding photography experience we provide our clients by limiting the number of clients we take a year for an exclusive, tailored experience with wedding photos focused on capturing candid memories of our couples while allowing them to have FUN on their wedding day!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being a creative entrepreneur and starting a business from the ground up is never a smooth road. Trust me, I bought ALL the #girlboss paraphernalia to try to convince me it could be easy! The journey to becoming a wedding photographer is well beyond “just pressing a button on a camera” and involves setting business foundations, creating marketing materials, establishing a referral network and most importantly, providing a deliverable of gorgeous portraits that both you and the client are overjoyed with. When it comes to wedding photography, you never get a do over if you make a mistake and the truth is, you will make a mistake. Its how you’ve prepared yourself for both triumphs and tribulations that will lead you into a successful photography career. To all my aspiring photographers out there, I encourage you no matter where you’re at in your career. Lean on your support system and seek out mentors for education. The photography community is full of those looking to lift each other up and not tear each other down!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are a Raleigh based wedding photographer team dedicated to serving clients in the Southeast and international clients! We love traveling and enjoy exploring the coast to mountains along the Eastern seaboard capturing seasons of engagement and weddings. What sets our photography team apart from most is our dedication to our clients and couples! We love establishing real relationships with our couples so by their wedding day they know they’ve got a friend behind the camera that is out there making them look their best and allowing them to enjoy the entirety of their wedding day experience. One of our most popular and unique aspects of our business is our deliverable of a “same day slideshow” of the couples’ wedding photos at their own wedding reception! The couple alongside their parents, grandparents and guests love to sneak over to our iPad display where we showcase wedding photos taken just mere hours before! It’s a great opportunity for guests to get a behind the scenes view of the gorgeous detail photos and moments captured with the bride and groom with their bridesmaids and groomsmen prior to the ceremony that many people wouldn’t be able to see until weeks or months later once the full photo gallery has been delivered.
How do you think about luck?
I have always had the mentality that luck is what you create of it. Learning to control what you can control is a major milestone for wedding photographers. Sometimes, if not most times, you have to roll with the punches of a wedding day. Sometimes Mother Nature decides to rain the entire wedding day, sometimes florists get the wrong address of your venue, sometimes a bridesmaid gets food poisoning the night before. Is that bad luck? Abso-freaking-loutely! What can you do about it? Most of the time, nothing. You just have to trust and rely on your support system and always think of the big picture. You’re here to marry the love of your life. That is the most important reason of your wedding day and no amount of good luck or bad luck is going to prevent that from happening!
