Life & Work with Chelsy Ferguson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsy Ferguson.

Chelsy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I would say my business journey has always been in the works, even when I didn’t know it. I grew up surrounded by beautiful designs, events, and an extremely hospitable family. I’ve always been into design and planning, whether it’s a gorgeous interior, an out-of-this-world wedding, or being there in crucial moments for others, so getting to serve people in that way is beyond fulfilling. I feel like owning a business that is all about celebrating love and life has always run through my veins. As for the official start to The Gathering Co. – it all became a reality in my corporate cubicle. I was out of college, working in a marketing role while also working part-time for a venue when I hit a crossroad between continuing into a new role with corporate or taking a chance to step out and seek my own passion. I started drawing up a business plan, made a website, and crafted a name that is dear to me – and just a couple of months later, TGC officially bloomed as a reality for me. And here we are, many couples, stories, sweat, and risks later! It has been a few years of TGC being official and I’m already so thankful for how far this company and all it represents has come. We, the TGC family, only look forward to the years, weddings, and growth to come!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall, I would say it’s been a pretty smooth road, but was it an easily paved one? Not necessarily! Owning a small business takes HOURS of hard work. It takes daily risks, community, continued education, stepping out of comfort zones, and self-trust. I would say some of the struggles come from being your own worst enemy and not always trusting what you know, alongside self-doubt in moments of weakness, but if you hustle and keep going through the thick and thin, you WILL make it out on the other side. I contribute my success to the challenges I have overcome, the daily hard work I put in, my partner, and the talents I have been blessed to exercise with an AMAZING client base… I would say our road will never be finished, so we expect to encounter many bumps, curves, smooth paths, etc. in our future, and in a way, that is the fun of it all!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a small, women-owned, business in the wedding industry. My business is called The Gathering Co. is an inclusive, women-owned, business in the wedding industry. We are a wedding planning company that specializes in design + relationships. I like to say we’re known for our unique designs, passionate personalities, care for others, and attention to detail. I’m most proud of what we are known for in our community. I set out to start this company with intentionality + authenticity, through our designs, conversations, and work, and I truly believe we stand out because of this. I want not only our couples but also our fellow vendors to feel and know the wedding we are planning for, and with, them is a one-of-a-kind. A day that allows you to physically and emotionally see that the plans and designs came from a place of true passion, love, and originality for their story! We put this to active practice and will always continue to find ways to show this through our work more and more!

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
It’s okay to ask for help sometimes. I’m the worst at this! I always like to learn through experiencing something on my own, but through the time in my industry, I’ve realized it’s okay to reach out to your trusted community for support + advice! Especially if it’s something you’ve never had to know before (hello tax season!).
