Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Williams.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
About five years ago, I learned about a group of seniors that were living in low-income housing in Fuquay Varina. They lived at or below poverty level. I inquired with the manager of the complex about assisting them with basic necessities. I didn’t get a good response, so I took matters into my own hands and met some of the residents and asked what I could assist with.
My friends and I along with the help of our community delivered gifts cards, groceries, toiletries, paper products, and more. I would come home and my entire porch would be so full that I couldnt walk on it. We made our first delivery in December 2020. Since that delivery, we started bingo, crafts, mobile library, birthday celebrations, furnished apartments, and more. We’ve put smiles on the faces of some of the most vulnerable. They know if they need.something, we are there to help. We now go over at a minimum every other month and provide gift cards paper products, lunches, and more. Last Christmas we provided Christmas for approximately 100 seniors. We changed the name of our group to Angels Among the Elderly. We plan to continue helping seniors in our area with whatever needs they have. We love to see the smiles on their faces.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The only real obstacle that I face is struggling at times to get donations.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an employee of a government agency in Raleigh. I’ve worked for the state for over 5 years. I run the group and accept donations at my home.
I am known around town as the lady who helps seniors. I’m most proud that I followed God’s plan for me to serve others. I am grateful that the community serves alongside me.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I would say if you truly want to help others, just go do it. There’s always someone in need and grateful for the help. If you want a mentor, find someone who is doing what you want to do and ask them how they got started.
