Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Lee
Hi Christopher, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hey hey, my name is Christopher Lee. I have been tattooing for 12 years. Tattooing was not something I thought I’d be doing, growing up as a rebellious skateboarder. It kept introducing itself to me at random times throughout my life since I was 16. I finally took a chance at it and I’ve been running with it ever since. Tattooing has taken me places I never could have imagined. It has kept me out of trouble and off the streets, giving me opportunities worldwide while being able to provide for my family. Needless to say, I’m very thankful.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the obstacles I faced in the beginning was finding the right artist to properly teach me the art of tattooing. I wanted someone that was consistent both personally and professionally. Throughout my hard work & dedication, I succeeded in finding three mentors. All who, believed in me and showed me things I never thought possible. Fast forward all these years, with a growing passion, I still yearn to learn #ItNeverStops.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I like to create things with the direction given from the client with no restrictions. The reason I say no restrictions is because tattooing is so complex, and there are certain unwritten rules that must be followed, so I take everything and just do what I do best to create from paper, to IPad, to skin. I enjoy realism, surrealism, black and gray, and hand style script. What sets me apart from others is the attention I give to the client during their session. It’s very personal.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
My favorite genre of books is “hood books”, better known as urban fiction. There’s one book in particular, “Payback is a Mutha” by Wahida Clark, it kept my mind occupied during some tough times.
As for podcasts, there’s nothing in particular but I was a guest on the “Honest Tattooer” podcast, which you can find on YouTube. They are good humans with a dope podcast.
