Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Hill.
Hi Dana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I began performing at the age of 10 as “Trouble the Clown,” using entertainment as a way to help raise money for disabled children in my hometown in North Carolina. What started as a fun way to give back quickly grew into a passion for entertaining and connecting with audiences. By the age of 13, I had expanded into balloon artistry and magic, performing regularly during family nights at local restaurants and developing the interactive comedy style that still defines my shows today.
In 2004, I took a major step forward in my career by competing at the prestigious Daytona Festival of Magic Close-Up Competition against some of the world’s top performers, where I earned first place honors. Since then, I’ve continued to receive recognition for my strolling close-up and stage magic, including returning to Daytona in 2012 to once again earn top honors in close-up magic.
After graduating high school, I joined my father to form one of the few father-son magician duos touring professionally across the United States. Together, we entertained audiences at a wide variety of venues, bringing a unique blend of comedy, illusion, and audience interaction to each performance.
As our careers evolved, we expanded our entertainment offerings by adding a high-energy Blues Brothers tribute act to our repertoire, performing as the iconic musical duo and further showcasing our passion for live entertainment and crowd engagement.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to perform throughout the United States, Mexico, and Canada, blending comedy, audience interaction, and sleight-of-hand to create unforgettable experiences for audiences of all ages. From corporate events and theaters to churches, festivals, libraries, and private celebrations, I love tailoring each performance to fit the audience and create moments people will remember long after the show is over.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As a performer, word-of-mouth has always been one of the most valuable forms of advertising. Building my brand and establishing recognition early on was both challenging and rewarding, and it continues to evolve with every performance. I strive to stay current with trends and pop culture to keep my material fresh, relatable, and engaging for audiences of all ages.
In 2020, the entertainment industry experienced a dramatic shift toward virtual and online performances, requiring performers to quickly adapt to an entirely new format. Because live entertainers naturally feed off the energy and interaction of an audience, transitioning to performing in front of a camera presented a unique challenge. However, it also became an important opportunity to continue bringing laughter, connection, and entertainment to people during an especially difficult time.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a professional comedy magician and family entertainer specializing in interactive live entertainment for audiences of all ages. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to perform for a wide variety of events including corporate functions, festivals, theaters, libraries, churches, schools, and private celebrations throughout the United States, Mexico, and Canada. My performances blend comedy, audience participation, and illusion to create an experience that is both memorable and genuinely fun for guests.
I am especially known for my ability to connect with audiences and make every performance feel personal and engaging. Whether performing for children, families, or adults, I strive to create an atmosphere where everyone feels involved and entertained. I also take pride in keeping my performances fresh and modern by incorporating current trends, music, and pop culture references that audiences can relate to.
One of the things I am most proud of is being able to turn a childhood passion into a lifelong career. Earning the trust of audiences and event organizers over the years has been incredibly rewarding and is something I never take for granted.
What sets me apart is my combination of professional-quality entertainment with an approachable, energetic, and adaptable performance style. I work hard to customize each show to fit the audience and event rather than offering a one-size-fits-all experience. My goal is always to leave people not only amazed, but laughing, engaged, and talking about the experience long after the event is over.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
This one is honestly a toss-up between two memories that had a major impact on my life and career.
The first was my very first night performing table-side magic and balloon creations at a local restaurant. Early in the evening, I had visited a family’s table to entertain them, and as they were preparing to leave, a young girl ran back over to me holding something in her hands. It was her children’s menu, where she had colored a picture of a clown just for me. She handed it to me with a big hug and said she wanted me to keep it. Seeing the joy and excitement that performance brought to her and her family was a defining moment for me. It was then that I realized entertaining people and creating those kinds of memories was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
The second memory involves my father, who was also an entertainer. He was attending a performers’ convention in Las Vegas and went to see David Copperfield perform one evening. After the show, he had the opportunity to meet him and mentioned that I was an aspiring young magician and one of David Copperfield’s biggest fans growing up. My father called me late that night from Las Vegas — which meant it was around 2 a.m. back home in Eastern North Carolina. When he told me David Copperfield was about to get on the phone, I immediately jumped out of bed and ran outside into the freezing February night in my pajamas just to get a better cell signal. I was probably shaking from both the cold and excitement, but getting to speak with someone I admired so much was an unforgettable experience and one that continues to inspire me to this day.
