Today, we’d like to introduce you to Diamond DeLoatch.
Hi Diamond, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, I didn’t have the most “ideal” relationship with my parents. My mom had got to a point where she wasn’t about to keep spending money. She didn’t have to keep my hair up.
For any growing girl, that was extremely hard to deal with. So, I started learning to braid first. Braiding my friend’s hair to get my technique and styles right. I eventually got good enough to start doing my own hair and went to VoTech for Cosmetology.
I told myself that making money off and ensuring other women feel good about themselves would be a walk in the park. As time moved on, my talents helped me when I ventured into modeling and promoting. Now, I have a 7-figure business while still working for “The Man,” lol!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not. First and foremost, I became a single mother immediately after high school. My son’s father was murdered late at night whilst I was with child! I ended up failing VoTech off days because I was sick from my pregnancy.
I had to pay out of pocket at 18 years old, pregnant, alone, with no job, just to take my state board for my license. Every day after, there was an uphill fight to provide a great life for my son, who had no true knowledge of how to do it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Braider!! Yes, I do all kinds of styles, all kinds of natural hair things, but my knack has become braids.
I’m most proud of how I have taken my talents and made them into a successful business where I have consistent clients in VA, NC, & SC! I feel that if it wasn’t for my down-to-earth attitude and my speed and dedication to perfecting my craft for the sake of my name, I would stand out like I do.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Noo. I was moving with precautions before then. I hate being sick.
