Today we’d like to introduce you to Dionne Selby.
Hi Dionne, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey started with a passion for banking, leadership, and helping others succeed. After more than 20 years in the financial industry, I founded the Black Chamber of Raleigh to create greater opportunities, resources, connections, and advocacy for Black-owned businesses. Today, we’ve grown to more than 300 business members and continue building partnerships that strengthen businesses and our community.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Our biggest challenge has been getting funding to support our growth, programs, and resources for our members. Despite that challenge, we continue building strong partnerships and finding new ways to serve our business community.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
The Black Chamber of Raleigh is focused on helping Black-owned businesses grow through networking, education, advocacy, funding resources, and access to contracts and opportunities. Community advocacy is also a major part of my work—I believe in being a voice for businesses and connecting our community to the resources and opportunities they deserve. I’m most proud that we’ve grown to more than 300 business members in a short period of time. What sets us apart is our hands-on approach and commitment to creating real impact.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I give a lot of credit to my family, friends, community supporters, members, and team who have believed in the vision and supported me along the way. Their encouragement, connections, and willingness to show up have played a major role in the growth and success of the Black Chamber of Raleigh. This has truly been a community effort, and I’m grateful for everyone who continues to support the mission.
