Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Roxci
Hi DJ Roxci, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey into DJing started in college, spinning tracks at house parties straight from YouTube. It wasn’t until my friends—who were involved in various organizations on and off campus—began inviting me to DJ their events that I truly found my footing. A lot of my musical background comes from the places I’ve lived and being mindful of the sounds my friends and family gravitated toward.
From Djing for a high end streetwear fashion company called YUNG USA, to traveling across the country with a musical game show called Aux Cord Wars, expanded my experience and deepened my connection to diverse audiences. Eventually, I planted myself in Charlotte, immersing myself in the city’s rich culture and music scene—allowing me to grow, evolve, and refine my craft.
Now, I’m expanding my platform with The Fox Room, a space where music meets storytelling, blending DJing, conversation, and culture. I’m also studying music production to take my artistry even further.
For me, DJing isn’t just about playing songs—it’s about creating moments, honoring emotions, and bringing people together through sound. My journey is still evolving, but the mission remains the same: to be a cultural storyteller, using music as a bridge between memories, emotions, and the future.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has shaped me into the DJ and storyteller I am today.
In the beginning, access to equipment and opportunities was a big hurdle. I started out DJing with just YouTube and a laptop—no controllers, no fancy setups—just a deep love for music and the ability to read a room. As I gained more experience, I had to invest in myself, learning how to properly mix, blend, and create an experience for my audience.
One of my biggest challenges was figuring out what people like to listen to. I grew up as an old soul, with my musical background rooted in the church and heavily influenced by my family—many of whom were from up north. My foundation was built on gospel, hip-hop, and R&B, especially from the ’90s and 2000s. But it wasn’t until I got around my friends that I started discovering and appreciating the sounds of today’s music. That shift helped me become more versatile, allowing me to blend nostalgia with modern vibes in a way that resonates with different crowds.
Through it all, I’ve learned that DJing is about connection—understanding the energy of a room, tapping into emotions, and creating a moment that people won’t forget. The road hasn’t been easy, but it’s been a journey of growth, learning, and constantly evolving with the music.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a DJ, curator, and cultural storyteller, using music to create moments that connect with people on a deeper level. Through The Fox Room, I blend DJing, storytelling, and culture, crafting experiences that feel nostalgic yet fresh. My sound is rooted in hip-hop, R&B, soul, and gospel, but I also incorporate different genres and eras, creating a balance between the past and present.
Some of my greatest accomplishments include being part of the All-Female DJ Lineup for the Red Bull Turn It Up competition, an incredible opportunity to showcase my craft on a major stage, and traveling the country with Aux Cord Wars, experiencing firsthand how music brings people together in different cities. I’m also proud of how The Fox Room is growing—not just as a podcast, but as a brand that represents music, storytelling, and culture in an authentic way.
What sets me apart is my intentionality—I don’t just play music, I curate emotions. I pay close attention to what people connect with, blending classic sounds with today’s music in a way that feels seamless. My upbringing as an old soul, combined with my exposure to different musical influences, allows me to bring a unique perspective to every set.
At the end of the day, my mission is simple: to create experiences that feel good, sound good, and leave a lasting impact.
What does success mean to you?
For me, success is about impact. Over time, I’ve learned that if you can touch just one person in the room, it could change their whole life—and that impact can lead to another. Whether it’s through a DJ set, a mix, or a conversation, my goal is to create moments that resonate—moments that people carry with them beyond the music.
Making people feel something is what it’s all about. If I can inspire, heal, or connect with someone through sound and storytelling, then I’ve done what I’m meant to do.
At the end of the day, impact lasts longer than recognition—and that’s what success looks like to me.
