Life & Work with Evelyn Malveau-sanders of Raleigh-Fayetteville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Evelyn Malveau-sanders

Hi Evelyn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Established in 2021, My husband and I wanted to start a family business; as we have always been fascinated with thrift stores for a long time. The ball started rolling when we sold a special edition Campbells Soup Polaroid Camera. We found it while helping my mother-in-law clean out old items from her home. After that? Major Nostalgia took off like a rocket!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to entrepreneurship is a rocky road indeed. You have the best of days and you have the worst of days. Just to name an important struggle; location, LOCATION, Location. If you want to be successful as a standing shop, you should definitely research the area to see if your niche is needed or wanted.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
. Major Nostalgia specializes in bringing life to the world’s childhood memories. We are known for retro and modern video games, vintage T-shirts, and collector’s items. We are most proud of building our company from scratch. During the first year of COVID, when everyone was struggling with financial hardship, we created a business without using a PPP Loan, a bank loan, or borrowing any money. (Talk about taking a step of faith!)

What do you like and dislike about the city?
The things I like best about Raleigh are the opportunities for growth. Being the capital of North Carolina, there’s so much potential. The things I like least about Raleigh is it is very crowded, and very expensive to live here.
