Today we’d like to introduce you to Georgia Tardy.
Hi Georgia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
My earliest memory of creating art was 8 years old. I was a 3rd grader who brought home a class project, a drawing of a lion’s head. My family’s excited reaction has stayed with me over the years. I am fortunate to have been born into a family where my art and creative urges were encouraged.
My entire childhood and teenage years were full of creative experiences and exposure to the arts. I always knew my purpose was to become a professional artist. I continued my journey through college, earning my BFA in Design and Advertising, and started my career as a graphic designer working at a print company.
I quickly learned that working for someone else, sitting at a desk, stifled my creativity immensely and I needed to stretch out on my own. An opportunity came in 2005 for me to branch out and begin a freelance career. Easier said than done! Years of trial and error, incredible achievements, and unforgettable moments have developed me into the artist-entrepreneur I am today.
One of the most valuable lessons I have learned throughout my artistic journey is never to be ashamed to start over. Everything I have experienced has shaped me, elevated my art, and made me a better artist.
Now, in 2021 almost 2022, I am still exploring my creativity, growing my business, and constantly learning. Creativity is a lifelong process of exploration. Today, I’m still that 8-year-old little girl, beaming with excitement over my love of art.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road getting here has been not been smooth. There are so many struggles along the way. One of the main struggles is to keep at it when things don’t go the way you expect. Even with all of the planning in the world, something unexpected will always happen along the way.
I’ve experienced some of my greatest career achievements and lowest personal moments all at the same time. When all hell has broken loose in my life, I still kept creating. Not ignoring the issue but using my art to get through the issue.
Challenges have value hidden within them and I’ve learned to allow them to give depth to my work.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in abstract paintings, murals, drawings, and graphic design.
I call my work a mash-up of art nouveau and psychedelic art. There are specific elements you will see in my pieces; a female face, curvy lines, bold colors or abstract shapes, and botanical images. The organic, flowing lines and shapes represent that Life is ever-evolving, changing with the seasons of time and circumstance. It’s what I like to call a “beautiful mess”.
I believe that, if we look closely, there can be beauty in the messy areas of life as we take form into who we were created to be.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was very shy, quiet, and observant of everything around me. I was that kid that always wanted to be around the grown folks to listen in on their conversations. In addition to art, my interests were in sports and music.
