Today we’d like to introduce you to Greta Curry.
Hi Greta, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m originally from the Pittsburgh area, but I’ve also lived in Arizona and West Virginia before settling here in North Carolina. My husband and I have been together forever, and we’re proud to have an amazing family and outstanding friends.
I’ve specialized in lash extensions since 2018, and I also offer lash lifts, brow laminations, lash & brow tinting, sugar waxing and makeup services. After completing esthetics school in my early forties,I started out as a part time lash artist. I quickly improved my skills and became fully booked and moved to full time to accommodate clients. An opportunity to become a trainer within the company and I was strongly encouraged to apply. I did just that. I started traveling the country training lash artists within the franchise as well as working with research and development on new techniques, services, and products. In addition to that, I still maintained a book of clients. After several months and after Covid, I moved into becoming the head of training for the company. I spent the next 3 years leading my team of trainers, coaching franchisees, growing the company as a member of the leadership team and speaking at corporate conferences. It then became time to make a change and I decided to go back to servicing clients. I worked out of a local salon and was ready for this next adventure. Velvet & Sage started to come to life.
I’m passionate about creating beautiful results while protecting the health and integrity of natural lashes. I truly believe that my attention to detail and commitment to exceptional customer service are what set me apart. At Velvet & Sage, I’ve created a space that’s not just about beauty—it’s about connection, care, and a little everyday magic.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Since starting my own business with Velvet & Sage, it has been a fairly smooth road, just a few minor bumps along the way. It was completely a leap of faith when I started with only six clients. I knew that those six clients would basically cover my rent, and maybe give me a little extra. I think the biggest struggle was not knowing where to start whether I should have an LLC or be a sole proprietor. I used community resources to help me through the process.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love the artistry and creativity of lash extensions and makeup. I think my favorite part is when I finish the service and the client looks in the mirror and loves what they see. It requires an attention to detail and focus to provide something beautiful that the client will be pleased with. In addition to that, I always want to provide a pleasant experience overall. The room they come into, the energy I provide, the conversation we have. I just want it to be pleasant all around.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Honesty is the best policy.
