Today we’d like to introduce you to James Koch.
Hi James, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Began in 1974 by attending Photography School in Rhode Island; from there, went straight into commercial photography, working on many different projects, from photographing Nuclear plants to Vulcan Iron Works to some of the first McDonald’s restaurants. After a few years at that, I found my real passion in working in the home furnishings industry, taking on projects to launch new products in a very creative environment.
Started my own photography studio in NYC in 1986 and then proceeded to expand into a more full-service ad agency. This is how we made sure that our photographs were going to be printed to the bestuse and handled adequately at the printers. We have been a driving force of creativity for 40 years and are now focused on just a few boutique clients across the country.
In 1988, I moved back to NC and have been here ever since. Our work has been published in international magazines and continues to be published there.
Photography is a passion for me and has also allowed me to continue with artwork and gallery shows.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing in life has a smooth road; there have been many challenges during the years, such as the economy, wars, and the furniture industry changing from us to offshore.
I have seen the process change in the art of photography many times, but if you understand that the equipment is only another tool to work with. You are the creator, not the camera; the work can continue in the same creative manner.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
One of our clients told another ask Jim to do it, he’s even willing to go to the moon.
I have been one who never runs from a challenge, and most of them came from me because it was my idea. Then I had to produce it…
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Long hours.
