Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamison Bennett.
Hi Jamison, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Well, I got started in the makeup industry by being introduced to a female impersonator of the name Arabia Knight Adams, I became engulfed in the highlight and bright colors. After losing a job at a warehouse that I despised, I was walking in the mall and stumbled across Sephora in JC Penny I filled out an application (had no makeup experience except on myself).
I had no hopes of getting that job and a close friend Jmar encouraged me to pursue it, I got called back for a group interview and knocked it out of the ballpark, I worked my way from part-time to store manager over a course of 10 years, I learned so much from that position but I also learned that my passion and dream was so much bigger.
After experiencing the loss of a close friend I developed PTSD and I decided it was best to leave and invest in myself and my worth, I created Juiceboxxcosmetics and started pursuing my dreams of being a freelance makeup artist and having my own cosmetic line.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely been a hard road, I don’t even think smooth really exist lol. I think my biggest struggle was going from a salary-paid job, that was definitely a big adjustment and had me down a lot, but I found a way to prevail through having strong friends and business mentors.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I do full face makeup, I specialize in natural and glam applications, I’m known for flawless foundation application and enhancing natural beauty.
I am most proud to be able to say I have my own cosmetic line and that I’m working in a field where I can be creative, I’m proud that I didn’t give up when I wanted to.
I feel that my personality and energy set me apart from others, I’m a unique individual and believe that my make up sessions and products are meant to inspire and motivate those who come in contact with my presence, most of my clients can attest our make up sessions are pretty therapeutic and they leave feeling beautiful inside and out.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Whew, it’s definitely been a few I would have to say my best friend, Travon Crawford who really pushed me. In 2018, when I left Sephora, my partner Cameron Kiner who has been there every step of the way and invested in me, Tasha Prescott a well-known photographer who would check up on me and has always supported my craft and used me for her models.
Sylvia Glanton, I can’t express or say how much she had been an inspiration in my life, Sylvia helped me get my LLC, helped create my logo, and continues to pour into me. I call her my boss friend she is pure motivation and last but not least, my mom and sister. I wouldn’t be able to be who I am or where I am without these people, and of course, a few more people.
