Today we’d like to introduce you to John Andrews
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
John Andrews is a trailblazer in retail and influencer marketing. He is renowned for developing Walmart’s Elevenmoms, one of the first platforms to harness the power of influencers for more authentic consumer connections. This initiative set the stage for “people as media,” shifting how brands engage their audiences.
In 2009, John showcased his entrepreneurial spirit by founding Collective Bias. This company redefined how brands and retailers collaborate with influencers to create compelling content that drives engagement and sales. Under his leadership, Collective Bias grew rapidly, leading to its acquisition by Inmar in 2016.
John’s leadership journey also includes strategic roles at Implus, where he was instrumental in driving marketing and growth strategies. His diverse experience and strategic acumen make him a trusted leader in the industry.
John holds a degree from Lenoir-Rhyne University and an MBA from Wake Forest University. Recently, he added to his skillset with a specialized AI Bootcamp at UNC-Chapel Hill, enhancing his ability to apply artificial intelligence in digital transformation projects.
John is a Retail Co-Innovation Director at Ricoh USA, where he drives cutting-edge digital transformation initiatives for retail brands. His passion for innovation extends to advisory roles, where he consults with companies on digital strategies that harness the power of AI and influencer marketing.
John also has served as an adjunct professor at NC State University, where he teaches marketing and consumer behavior, further sharing his industry insights with the next generation of professionals.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey has had its ups and downs, but every obstacle has been a chance to learn and grow. One of the initial challenges was persuading brands and retailers to invest in influencer marketing when I started Collective Bias. This new concept was met with skepticism, so it took persistence, education, and relationship-building to show its potential. As the company grew, maintaining operational efficiency while preserving our creative culture was another hurdle. However, it taught me the importance of forming strong teams and systems for sustainable growth. These experiences have influenced my leadership style, especially in my current role at Ricoh USA, where I assist clients in embracing digital transformation by highlighting the value of innovation. I’ve realized that challenges are crucial for progress, and they have made me a more resilient and resourceful leader.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
One of my proudest achievements is my work’s impact on the industry, particularly in pioneering new ways for brands to connect with consumers. Walmart’s Elevenmoms and Collective Bias’ success serves as evidence of the power of innovative thinking and collaboration.
What distinguishes me is my ability to analyze trends and adjust strategies to stay ahead of the curve. My diverse experience across various roles and companies has given me a unique perspective on the changing landscape of retail and marketing. Additionally, my recent completion of an AI Bootcamp at UNC-Chapel Hill has further enhanced my ability to integrate cutting-edge technology into my work.
In today’s rapidly changing business world, technology plays a crucial role in shaping how companies operate and engage with their customers. Staying ahead of technological advancements is essential, but what truly drives success is a relentless focus on understanding and meeting customer wants and needs. By prioritizing the customer experience, we can leverage technology to create more personalized, efficient, and satisfying interactions. This approach not only improves customer satisfaction but also fosters loyalty and long-term success.
