Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan G Estabrook
Hi Jordan G, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
When I was 15, I bought my first camera with nothing but a dream.
Before photography tutorials and the explosion of social media, I remember thumbing through numerous photography magazines and books and searching the Internet for posing tutorials—anything I could do to get a step closer to my dream of becoming a professional photographer.
Eleven years later, I can say that I’ve achieved that dream, thanks to photography mentors who took me under their wing and gave me a chance. Each couple presents an opportunity to explore creativity and reflect their uniqueness through a visual story. I love my clients; they’re the “why” behind every story I tell. To know a story best, you must know the people behind it.
They give me a new perspective on love. Without the beautiful people in front of my lens, my photos have less meaning, less story, and less authenticity. I want to tell your story not only well but also well. This is why I do photography.
Yet, even with all of this experience and incredible experiences, I feel like I’m still chasing a dream to be better at creating timeless and classic imagery that outlasts the trends.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Anyone who’s run a small business and/or learned a new skill will admit to some level of bumpiness in the road. Such was the case for me.
As I previously mentioned, I had to learn many of these skills without today’s plethora of information. I would spend hours figuring out a concept, doing countless shoots, and experience numerous failures. For example, learning flash and studio photography brought me to tears. I’ll never forget the moment, but failure has made my successes more sweet.
But, without those in the photography industry who took a chance to meet and mentor me, including Kathleen Dellinger of Captured by KD Photography, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a professional photographer located in North Carolina. I’ve been a photographer for 11 years and specialize in wedding and couple photography. Additionally, my fitness photography can be seen in numerous Lululemon stores and Charlotte’s SolidCore studio.
I pride myself on staying true to my style and remaining timeless and classic, regardless of the newest photography trend.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Be bold! Take a chance and ask someone to mentor you or meet with you. The worst they can say is no, but the best that can happen is you get priceless advice that carries you through your career or business adventure.
